p. 3 (cont.) Lockers – cannot be shared by students - book bags must be kept in lockers - book bags should not be placed on top of lockers Students must be signed out by a parent when it is necessary to leave school

p. 4 If a student is threatened in any way, he/she should report immediately to a staff member, teacher, or administrator. Announcements will be made at the end of the day. It is important that you remain quiet when announcements are made.

Absences p. 5 Direct relationship between poor attendance and class failure. Written excuses:  should be placed in the basket on the counter in the main office the day the student returns to school after the absence or after being checked out  Must be presented within 3 days or will be coded unexcused – day 4 is too late

Absences p. 5 (cont.) After the 5 th absence from school or any class in one semester, no make-up work will be given without a doctor’s statement or prinicipal’s permission. Arrangements for make-up work must be made by the student, in cooperation with the teacher, within 3 days of returning to school. Work or tests must be completed within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the teacher. A student who misses a scheduled make-up test will be given a zero on that exam. Work assigned before you leave on a field trip or other event is due the day you return to school.

Tardy policy p. 5 Students who arrive late to school must check-in in the main office immediately. Each unexcused check-in constitutes a tardy to school for purposes of this policy. A written excuse must be presented within 3 days for students signing in/out in order to be considered for excused status.

Tardies p. 6 (cont.) when arriving at school during an on-going class period, students check-in in the main office and then go to ISD until time for the next class to begin When a student has accumulated more than 5 tardies (to school and class) in a semester, the student will be subject to additional disciplinary action. On the student’s 5 th tardy and each one after that in a semester, the ISD supervisor will refer the student to the assistant principal to be charged with an intermediate violation.

Check-in/Check-out policy p. 6 In order to leave school during the school day, students must be signed out in the main office by an adult designated in writing by the parent/guardian. That adult must come in person to the main office. Students will not be permitted to sign out on the basis of a note, fax, or phone call from parents or others. Students who leave campus without following the check-out procedure will be charged with an unauthorized absence.

Vehicles p. 7 Students must purchase a parking decal. Students are not allowed to go to the parking lot during the school day without permission from the principal. Students must leave cars immediately after entering the parking lot. No one is allowed to sit in cars. All cars must turn right onto Clairmont until 2:15 p.m.

Fees p. 8 Students who have outstanding fees, lost or damaged textbooks, or other materials will not participate in events such as field trips, performances, etc. until all fees and money matters for classes are cleared.

Medication policy p. 9 All prescription medicines taken during the school day must be kept in the nurse’s office. Students, at the designated time, will have the medication administered by the school counselor, nurse, or other designee.

Arrival at school p. 10 Students may not enter the building prior to the 7:00 a.m. bell ringing unless they are eating breakfast in the lunchroom. Students eating breakfast are to go directly to the lunchroom and remain there until the bell rings. All other students must remain outside the building.

Cell phone policy p. 11 Students who bring cell phones to school are required to have the power on the device turned off during school hours, on the bus, and at any time that the student is a participant in an after-school activity under the direct supervision of school personnel. Students must keep the cell phones put away and out of sight at school. Students who have vehicles at school are encouraged to keep the cell phone in the locked vehicle. Students who don’t have a vehicle are encouraged to keep their cell phone in their locked locker. School personnel will not investigate the reported loss or theft of devices such as cell phones.

Dress code p. 12 Shoes must be worn at all times by all students. Shirts, blouse, and dresses should have modest and appropriate necklines and must have sleeves. Dresses or skirts may be no shorter than 5 inches above the middle of the kneecap. Shirts, t-shirts, blouses, sweaters, and other tops must not extend below buttocks; otherwise, they must be worn tucked into pants or skirts. Sweat pants, athletic shorts, pajama bottoms, and all types of underwear are prohibited as outerwear. Facial jewelry, including tongue jewelry is prohibited. Garments must be free of holes, rips, tears, frayed openings, or other threadbare appearance above the knee. “Cut-off” pants are not permitted.

Code of Conduct Many items are included in both the WHS student handbook and the code of conduct. Searches of lockers and other school property may be conducted by school officials at any time without prior notice.

Prevention of student harassment p. 12 No student shall engage in or be subjected to harassment, violence, threats of violence, or intimidation by any other student that is based on any of the specific characteristics identified by the Board in this policy.

Police interrogations of students p. 19 Questioning or interviewing of students conducted by school officials does not require parental contact or consent, even if such questioning occurs in the presence or vicinity of law enforcement officials or the information obtained by school officials is later shared with law enforcement.
