“So the promise is received by faith. It is given as a free gift. And we are all certain to receive it, whether or not we live according to the law of Moses, if we have faith like Abraham’s. For Abraham is the father of all who believe.” (Romans 4:16, NLT)

“I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you.” (2 Timothy 1:5, NLT)

“That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him, “I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing.” (Romans 4:17, NLT)

Believing “Even Though”

“Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping— believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!”” (Romans 4:18, NLT)

“And Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though, at about 100 years of age, he figured his body was as good as dead—and so was Sarah’s womb.” (Romans 4:19, NLT)

Even when there was no reason for hope… …even though, at about 100 years of age, he figured his body was as good as dead—and so was Sarah’s womb.

Faith does not naively ignore life’s challenges; faith faces them head-on.

Abraham kept hoping—believing… Abraham’s faith did not weaken…

Belief Certainty Commitment

Abraham’s Crisis of Certainty “But Abram replied, “O Sovereign L ORD, what good are all your blessings when I don’t even have a son?” (Genesis 15:2, NLT)

Unwavering faith is continuing to act on our beliefs even though our world is quaking, our pulse is quickening, and our mind is questioning.

Faith allows God to determine the limits of the challenge rather than allowing the challenges to define the limits of our God.

“Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.” (Romans 4:20, NLT)

“No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God,” (Romans 4:20, RSV)

Faith grows in hostile climates.

Believing the God Who Said So

“For God had said to him…,” (Romans 4:18)

“He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.” (Romans 4:21, NLT)

God’s “Word” Sustained Abraham in His Uncertainty “Then the L ORD took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!”” (Genesis 15:5, NLT)

“…God will also count us as righteous if we believe in him, the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God.” (Romans 4:24–25, NLT)

God will consider us acquitted of our guilt and included into His family… even though.
