Chapter 6 (Finish) Hydrosphere

North Pacific Gyre

A gyre is a large system of ocean currents in the oceans. They tend to form near the equator due to the warm air and pressure, the huge mountain of air circulating create a kind of toilet bowl effect on the ocean waters.

Three Gorges Dam (Yangtze River) The Three Gorges Dam is the world’s largest hydropower project and most notorious dam. The massive project sets records for number of people displaced (more than 1.2 million), number of cities and towns flooded (13 cities, 140 towns, 1,350 villages), and length of reservoir (more than 600 kilometers).

Ice Pack & Glacier Experiment

The Question? Guiding question: Will the melting of ice on land (Glaciers) have the same effect on sea level rise as the melting of sea ice (Pack Ice/Ice Caps)?

What to Do? You can work with groups up to a maximum of 3 people. You must list who you are working with Each group should submit only 1 report Reports should follow the same format as a formal lab report, but does not need to be as detailed. You must hand in the report by the end of class

You Will Need to Submit 1)Title 2)Hypothesis/purpose 3)Materials 4)Procedure 5)Data 6)Calculations 7)Analysis & Sources of Error 8)Conclusion
