Galatians 5:13-26 Claiming Faith, Finding Freedom: the Study of Galatians (vol. 2) David Jeremiahpg 62 “Galatians has taught us that as Christians we have been married to Christ and that our ceremonies, so to speak, tool place at Calvary when Jesus died in our place. That day when we put our trust in Him by faith, we were united with Jesus Christ. And the result of that union is a permanent relationship between Him and us… Therefore, our responsibility now as Christians is to live in light of who we are. “The Book of Galatians reminds us that we no longer have to try to measure up to any unattainable standard on our own because Jesus Christ has already measured up to that standard on our behalf. But now that we are related to Him, we need to live like followers of Christ. Paul is going to challenge us in these verses to be who we are—children of God and children of the promise. He begins his remarks with a paragraph about all of the possible expressions and actions that can be taken in freedom.”

“love” aga,ph (AGAPĒ), noun; agapa,w (AGAPAŌ), verb Vine’s “Christian love, whether exercised toward the brethren, of toward men generally, is not an impulse from the feelings, it does not always run with the natural inclinations, nor does it spend itself only upon those for whom some affinity is discovered. Love seeks the welfare of all, Rom. 15:2, and works no ill to any, 13:8-10; love seeks opportunity to do good to ‘all men, and especially toward them that are of the household of the faith,’ Gal. 6:10.”

Galatians 5:13-14 Claiming Faith, Finding Freedom: the Study of Galatians (vol. 2) David Jeremiahpg 63 “This is not an attempt to trivialize the law; instead, it is a very powerful statement about the power of love. Love is both the summary and the realization of the entire God-given moral law. And in case anyone considers this to be an oversimplified thought, Paul explains the logic behind this statement in Romans 13:9-10. “It makes perfect sense that if you love your neighbor, you won’t commit adultery with his wife. If you love your neighbor, you won’t steal his property. And if you love your neighbor, you won’t covet what he has. Love is the overarching principle! If you truly love your neighbor with the love of Christ that has been born into your heart, then you won’t need the law to tell you what to do. Love will guide you instead and become the motivator in all that you do.”
