Presentation transcript:

Section 2) – Evaluation You should NOT simply view this as a written Evaluation of the work you have completed – the more creative and imaginative the Evaluation, the better. YOU SHOULD choose at least x2 of the options below for the Evaluation: 1)Directly Evaluate work on the Blog Page OR through a Web Page created on Dreamweaver and include screen grabs/comparisons with other magazine conventions/examples where relevant, as well as different forms of multi-media. 2)Prezi – The Examiners preferred method – This is an online, interactive PowerPoint whereby you can navigate the examiner through the journey you have made. 3)Podcast – YOU COULD write a script for your Evaluation and insert this into iMovie and drag in screen grabs/images/video of examples you refer to.

In what ways does your Media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Example sentence starters: The magazine, across the 4-pages, ‘repeats’ (Steve Neale) codes and conventions from… There are examples of some ‘difference’, however, in terms of the forms and conventions in my own media product for example…. YOU MUST compare and contrast “real” music magazines and their conventions by including images of existing magazines and compare them to your own when giving these examples. Use theory like Steve Neale’s ‘repetition & difference’ (1980) ideology in your evaluative commentary. YOU SHOULD use media language and the correct terminology to define your examples.

How does your media product represent particular social groups? Example sentence starters: The denotation of representation is… The magazine, across the 4-pages, helps to represent… For example, on page…. YOU COULD refer to particular social groups, as well as whether you have targeted a particular socio-economic need (See image above right) YOU SHOULD use media language and terminology such as stereotype, as well as theory such as Wendy Helsby and others where relevant. YOU SHOULD compare to other existing magazines where relevant (Screen shots) Finally, did you appeal to your ‘Audience Profile’ set out in your Pre-Production Planning?

What kind of media institution (Publisher) might distribute your media product and why? Example sentence starters: From the research that was completed pre-production, I would envisage that … may publish ‘name of magazine’ because…. The similarities of my magazine to ‘name of magazine’ also ‘signifies’ (De Saussure)…. YOU SHOULD refer to research carried out on BAUER or find a Publisher that is associated to your sub-genre of music – RESEARCH AND APPLY! Publisher ideology – WHAT is their slogan? Does it match the ambition of the magazine? Distribute – to which outlets (shops) and WHY?

Who would be the audience for your media product and why? Hartley’s seven subjectivities According to Hartley’s seven subjectivities, Katz’ Uses & Gratifications theory According to Katz’ Uses & Gratifications theory,, Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs,, Other Theory – Socio-economic needs, Psychographics YOU SHOULD give detailed examples and explanations to justify your decisions. Did you meet the expectations of your ‘Audience Profile’? YOU COULD research other Audience theories and apply them to your work as well. What examples from your magazine page(s) highlight appealing to this demographic?

How did you attract/address your audience? In order to attract the intended target audience of.. I decided to…. The inclusion of codes & conventions such as… helped to appeal to the target audience because… YOU SHOULD refer to specific examples by taking screen grabs of particular features from your own production work. Social Media synergy? Cross-Media Convergence – e.g DPS at the end of the interview; Incentivized language to capture the attention of a pass along audience; ‘Star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) on the front cover; Price – Spending power/socio-economic needs of the audience Refer to EACH Page you constructed!

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? The denotation of the software used to construct the media product entitled ‘name of magazine’ was… In order for this product to look fit for purpose and appeal to the target audience, I decided to create… using the… tool because. Refer 2-3 examples at least and conclude YOU MUST refer to specific tools you used in Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Adobe InDesign CS5 to create the desired “look” and what inspired you to go for that “look” by referring to existing examples (screen grabs). What videos did you watch? What shortcuts did you learn? Evidence of this? Refer to EACH Page you constructed!

Photography Planning – Front Cover YOU SHOULD reflect on what you had to do in order to make the pictures successful – for example: Reflect on the organisation/planning that went into the pictures Who did you choose and why (compare to similar representations in other magazines) What props/costumes did you need and why?

Photography Planning - Contents YOU SHOULD reflect on what you had to do in order to make the pictures successful – for example: What shot type did you choose for the Editor photo and why? (compare to similar representations in other magazines) Reflect on the organisation/planning that went into the pictures What other pictures did you take and why? (compare to similar representations in other magazines) What props/costumes did you need and why?

Photography Planning - Interview YOU SHOULD reflect on what you had to do in order to make the pictures successful – for example: Why did you take the pictures presented in the double page? (compare to similar representations in other magazines) What did you have to ensure was ‘repeated’ (Steve Neale – 1980) from other magazines and why? How did you integrate text and imagery together?

Arrows should be RED as well! Screen grab of Magazine page positioned in the Center of the slide (Remove the BLUE box once placed in as well)

Audience Feedback - YOU SHOULD obtain this from at least x2 of the following methods: Survey Monkey – Questions (6 – 8) that are specifically designed to gather the thoughts and opinions of your target audience on what they are think are the strengths and/or areas to develop for your 4- Page spread. Questionnaire – Similar to Survey Monkey in terms of what you want to get form this Primary Research. Video interviews 3-4 Videos from people YOU think would read your magazine (stereotypically) and gather their thoughts/views on EACH Page.

Looking back at your Preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? I feel that, having completed the preliminary task and learning about the demands of this production process, I have learnt… There is evidence of progression that I feel particularly demonstrates how I met the demands of the production process, for example… YOU SHOULD refer to your step-by-step completion, as well the tools you learnt in your Main Task pages compared to your Preliminary Task Pages. YOU SHOULD also refer to your ability to “speed up your work flow” with shortcuts you learnt, image manipulation tasks you carried out and HOW you used Adobe InDesign CS5 to construct your DPS.
