WILLOWBROOK TAG Presents…

By Willowbrook’s Civitas Organization

Everyday they cry yet there is silence

Their tears stream down… …yet the ground is dry

…while we stand by They reach out for help…

We said never again… …when will it end…

Armenian Genocide:

While the rest of the world was at war…

…the Turks, in their conquest for land were willing to annihilate anything in their way

…which meant the unnecessary murder of 1.5 million Armenians

They brutally shot the Armenian men, while forcing women, children, and the elderly to march to their deaths

An International warning was issued to the Turks… … a warning that had no effect

"Thus for the time being I have sent to the East only my 'Death's Head Units' with the orders to kill without pity or mercy all men, women, and children of Polish race or language. Only in such a way will we win the vital space that we need. Who still talks nowadays about the Armenians?" -Adolf Hitler, 1939

Stalin’s Forced Famine:

As Ukraine was becoming more and more independent, Stalin and his Soviet regime were losing control

To Stalin, this was unacceptable As a result, 7 million Ukrainians were shot and starved to death

By the end of 1933, 25% of the Ukrainian population had been obliterated… …3 million of which were children

The Soviets duped the whole world into believing the genocide never happened by threatening the international press and by covering up their horrific crimes.

The Nanking Massacre:

After defeating the Chinese at Shanghai, Japanese soldiers marched to Nanking, where the havoc they created should never be forgotten.

Against the peaceful Chinese landscape, The Japanese used ruthless tactics to decimate 300,000 innocent Chinese

The streets of Nanking ran red with blood… …as the Japanese soldiers held killing contests

As many as 80,000 women, old and young Were gang raped by Japanese soldiers

Family members were forced to rape each other

The Chinese were forced to dig their own graves

Stories of the raping and massacres published in the New York Times were met with skepticism in the United States as such barbaric atrocities were too animalistic to believe

The Nazi Holocaust:

In 1933, Adolf Hitler rose to power and introduced to the Germans the idea of a master race

The goal of the Master race was to exterminate all “inferior” races

This led to the extermination of 6 million: JewsJews GypsiesGypsies HomosexualsHomosexuals PolesPoles Disabled personsDisabled persons Soviet POWsSoviet POWs

They were placed into death camps, where they ultimately dug their own graves …they were burned, suffocated, or starved to death

The camps were ultimately liberated by the Allies saving few survivors, & leaving the bodies of millions behind

The Cambodian Genocide:

With the cry This is Year Zero," With the cry of "This is Year Zero," the extreme Communist society that Dictator Pol Pot of Cambodia envisioned began 4 years of devastating human destruction

"Whether you live or die is not of great significance." 3 million Cambodians perished in the work camps where both the young and old were forced to work 18 hour days

20,000 people were tortured into giving confessions… …while 2 people a day died of malnutrition from the 1 tin of rice they were allowed to eat

..armed soldiers supervised the work camps… …blood thirsty to murder starving victims that tried to eat their harvest

Starving victims were told… …“whether you live or die is not of great significance”

The world’s ignorance of this genocide reflected those words

Rwanda Genocide: 1994

On April 6, 1994, an eerie silence fell upon Tutsi villages in Africa…

…After years of racial tension, Hutu extremists began the slaughter of innocent Tutsis

Hutu doctors, journalists, and educators spread racist propaganda that supported the killings

…No one was safe…

…militia men forced neutral Hutus to kill their neighbors…

…family members were forced to kill one another…

…No place was safe…

…The Tutsis fled to churches and hospitals

…but even once sacred places were not safe anymore…

…No time was safe…

Killings began at 8:00 am… …and lasted until the dead of night

...The once beautiful Kigara River…

Became a traffic jam of dead bodies floating to Lake Victoria

In the end, 800,000 innocent men, women, and children met an unfair fate

Bosnia & Herzegovina Genocide:

In 1992, the Bosnian War broke out between the Serbs and Muslims… … to defeat the Muslims, the Serbs began a mass ethnic cleansing of Bosnian Muslims.

The Serbs’ main targets were men ages in order to: Whittle down the Muslim forces Whittle down the Muslim forces Prevent the growth of the Muslim population in BosniaPrevent the growth of the Muslim population in Bosnia

Out of the 400,000 people killed… 92% were men, and 8% were women

The Serbs threw Muslims into concentration camps where starvation, shooting, and decapitation were common methods of murder

Despite these horrible crimes, this wasn’t considered a genocide until July of 2007, 12 years after it ended

Darfur: 2003-Present

The Janjaweed, armed by the Sudanese government, come on horseback to the non-Arab villages

They burn, rape, and pillage villages

200,000 – 400,000 people dead

2 million more people at risk

2.5+ million people displaced

These numbers are still growing everyday… …Every hour… …Every minute

In 2004 the US House of Representatives adopted a resolution for the Bush Administration to refer to the violence in Darfur by its “rightful name…genocide”

- President George W. Bush 9/21/2004 “The world is witnessing terrible suffering and horrible crimes in the Darfur region of Sudan, crimes my government has concluded are genocide.” - President George W. Bush 9/21/2004

On March 4 th, 2009 the International Court of Justice put out an arrest warrant for Omar Hassan Al-Bashir, the Sudanese president, for crimes against the people of Darfur…

Al-Bashir has since ignored the ICJ’s warrant and the genocide in Darfur continues…

Never again meant we wouldn't avert our eyes.

Never again meant we wouldn't cover our ears.

Never again meant we would never again ignore genocide.
