What?

The Learning Lab will be a physical space for testing technology, trying new hardware and software and learning how to make best use of it.

It will be a safe and neutral space away from classrooms and work spaces where users can learn, teach, create and experiment, all with the help of experienced staff.

Using these concepts, the Learning Lab is designed to encourage creativity, imagination, play and learning by providing an environment to experiment. For D&A, this will raise the quality and impact of our learning and teaching.

FE should be the home of vocational, hands-on creativity and imagination.

We don’t want to kill creativity! (Ken Robinson 2006) We want people to have the opportunity to develop and enhance their skills.

Impact?

Giving Learning Lab users creative learning opportunities they would not otherwise have.

Giving Learning Lab users* creative learning opportunities they would not otherwise have. *users means our staff and students, but we also want library staff from public libraries and schools to use the Lab and get training and support using new technologies.

Embedding technological creativity* in our curriculum through use of the Learning Lab.

*Inspiring technological creativity in the work of others through use of the Learning Lab. Embedding technological creativity* in our curriculum through use of the Learning Lab.

Embedding digital and information literacy skills into our curriculum through use of the Learning Lab.

Inspiring others to deliver digital and information literacy skills in new ways through use of the Learning Lab.

Upskilling staff, students and other community groups to effectively use a range of technologies to develop essential skills required for learning, life and work.
