Advanced Skills Induction Introduction Unit a

Introduction  Congratulations! You have just won £1000 on a scratch card.  You want to spend the money on yourself and friends/family.  Come up with a fully costed day of fun……  Your day should be fully planned; including timings of what you are going to be doing and when. This is an itinerary.  Use the internet to help you find out costings.

In pairs  Present your ‘days’ to one another.  Are there any things you have missed or things that might go wrong with your plans? Make suggestions to each other.

Skills  You have actually used a lot of skills to plan your days.  What specific skills do you think you have used?

Literacy  By reading about activities, speaking to people, writing an itinerary, you have used literacy skills.

Numeracy  By spending your £1000, and costing all of your activities, you have demonstrated your numeracy skills.

Digital Literacy  By searching the internet for activities and prices, you have used digital literacy skills.

Planning and Organisation  By creating an itinerary, you have demonstrated planning and organisational skills

Creation and Innovation  By creating an itinerary, you have demonstrated how creative and innovative you are.

Problem Solving and Critical Thinking  By responding to the brief, you have solved the problem.

Personal Effectiveness  Did you take on board any suggestions when you were explaining your day to your partner?

Skills and the Welsh Baccalaureate  Over the next 2 years, you will be working on developing these specific skills.  They are essential life skills and there are always opportunities to practice and improve them.  The most important thing to realise is: It is by reflecting on how well you used your skills, that will enable you to improve your skill set.

Skills and the Welsh Baccalaureate Using a ‘Learning Log’ is one way of reflecting on the development of your skills, and to set personal goals for improvement. Use ‘My Learning Log’ throughout your Welsh Bacc experience to reflect on your personal development.
