In 2013, 9,580 Unbuckled Vehicle Occupants Killed in Crashes in the United States. National Seatbelt Use Rate is 87 Percent. 13 Percent (27.5 Million People) Still Need to be Reminded that Seatbelts Save Lives.

Click It or Ticket Facts Continued In 2012 Alone, 3,031 Lives Could Have Been Saved if All Passenger Occupants 5 and Older Involved in Fatal Crashes had Worn Seatbelts. In 2013, Nearly Half of Vehicle Occupants Who Died in Crashes we Unrestrained. Among Young Adults 18 to 34 Killed in Crashes, 61 Percent Were Completely Unrestrained, the Highest Percentage of All Age Groups.

Click It or Ticket Facts Continued In 2013, 638 Children 12 and Younger Killed in Vehicle Crashes, More Than a Third (38%) Were Unrestrained. Safe in the Back Seat Unrestrained? No, Half of All Unrestrained Occupants Killed in 2012 Were Unrestrained. 61 Percent of Those Killed in Back Seats Were Unrestrained.

Click It or Ticket Facts Continued Rural Versus Urban Locations: In 2013, 13,038 Fatalities Occurred in Rural Locations. 8,079 Fatalities Occurred in Urban Locations. 51 Percent Killed in Rural Locations Were Unrestrained; Compared to 46 Percent in Urban Locations. In 2013, 59 Percent of Unrestrained Vehicle Occupants Were Killed at Night (6 pm – 5:59 am).
