Presentation transcript:

Leaves

The leaf is a part of the plant that is charge of making food for the plant. 99% of the photosynthesis is done here. Leaves can be used to identify trees by looking at the leaf’s characteristics.

Types of Leaves? Leaves can either be broad and flat or scalelike/needlelike

Types of Broad Leaves Broad leaves are either simple or compound

Shapes of Simple Leaves

Shapes of Compound Leaves

Parts of the Leaves Petiole - a thin stalk that connects the blade of the leaf to the plant's stem. Blade - a thin, flat part of the leaf that extends off the end of the petiole. Veins - contain vascular tissue and transport food, water, and minerals Lobe - rounded or pointed section of a leaf Margin – the border or edge of a leaf; there are many different types Base – the bottom part of the leaf Leaflet – one of the small leaves on a compound leaf
