Thesis Is government involvement in college sports good or bad?

What is the NCAA? The NCAA oversees 89 championships in 23 sports. There are more than 400,000 student-athletes competing in three divisions at over 1,000 colleges and universities within the NCAA.

How Does The NCAA Work? The NCAA oversees 89 championships in 23 sports. There are more than 400,000 student-athletes competing in three divisions at over 1,000 colleges and universities within the NCAA. Representatives from the NCAA membership – that is, individuals from member institutions and conferences -- are responsible for regulation of the Association. The membership must approve any changes to NCAA legislation or playing rules through processes identified in the NCAA constitution.

My Opinions You may disagree with government intervention on principle, but you can’t argue with the results. The most recent example of government intervention into the sports world involved steroid testing in Major League Baseball and other professional sports. Agree with the government disturbing the business of sports.

My Opinions cont. Money and greed being a corrupting influence on college sports, but in this day and age of intense media coverage of everything and the transparency involved, it would be all but impossible for a new play-off system to be so corrupt as to not have a HUGE financial benefit to EVERY college sports program. The government’s involvement in College Football will have the same positive effect it’s had on Major League Baseball.
