Rules and Regs Rules and regulations are descriptions and/or conducts that govern a sport. They cover various aspects of the sport, many of which can be seen in the diagram on the next slide In groups of 2 make a list of what comes under rules and regulations

National Governing Bodies (NGBs) National Governing Bodies (NGB's) are responsible for ensuring that, where applicable, the international Laws of the Game are applied to their sport, and that the rules and regulations are observed by officials, clubs and performers. But what is the difference between a rule, regulation Rules - These are the laws to which the game is played. They tend to be specific to the individual sport such as the off side rule in football or the double dribble rule in basketball. Rules can also involve contact with other players, the ways the lines are used and how points are scored.

Regulations in team sports - A regulation is rule that governs how the sport is organised, rather than the rules that dictate how the sport is played. These include; The number of players on the field of play and number of players on the bench e.g. X number of players with 3 substitutions from a 5 man bench. The number of officials needed to control the game e.g. a referee, umpire and how many other officials? The size/standard of the facility e.g. seated or standing stadiums. The type of equipment used - e.g. size 4 or 5 football. The scoring system used e.g. time to completion or restricted time.
