LO To assess your understanding of Pythagoras’ Theorem RAG Key Words: Reflect, Communicate, Explain, Justify25-Oct-15 Starter Activity Complete the ‘Heard the Word Grid.’ Are there any key words that you have learnt or have a better understanding of now than you did at the start of this unit of work?

Grade FEDCBA Pythagoras’ Theorem I can recognise square numbers and cube numbers. I can find the value of squares and cubes and I can calculate square roots. I can solve problems involving square numbers, square roots and cube numbers giving reasons for my answers. I can find the length of the hypotenuse in a right angled triangle using Pythagoras Theorem. I can find the length of a shorter side in a right angled triangle using Pythagoras Theorem. I can find missing lengths and distances in shapes other than right angled triangles using Pythagoras Theorem. I can solve 3D Pythagoras problems.

Key Words / symbols Never heard before? Heard of but not sure what it means? Know what it means and can explain it in context Jot down your ideas here... Right Angled Triangle Hypotenuse Pythagoras Theorem Formula Unknown Substitute Square Square root

Work out the value of (i)4 2...………… (ii)2 3 …...……… Find the value of (i)the square root of (ii)5 × (iii) From the numbers shown, write down (i)a square number (ii)a cube number Write down the value of Explain why is less than 10. ……………………………………… E E F F

A and B are points on a centimetre grid. A is the point (3, 2). B is the point (7, 8). Calculate the distance AB. Give your answer correct to 3 significant figures. D C C √

Use the learning journey above to highlight the mathematical skills that you have now which you didn’t have at the start of the unit of work. How much progress have you made? What can you do to improve your skills as a learner in order to make even better progress?
