Terms 3 By Cameron H

Cell In geometry, a cell is a three-dimensional element that is part of a higher-dimensional object.

Column This is a column of numbers: Examples:

Variable A letter or other symbol that represents a number. A variable can represent one specific number or it can stand for many different numbers. D=2 C=45 E=3 B=5

Algebraic expression An expression that contains a variable. B+C=A B=2 C=4 D=6 R=5 E=1 D=E+R

Row Arrangement of objects or data in a horizontal line or side by side is called a Row

Evaluate (a formula) To find a value for. To evaluate a mathematical expression, replace the variable (if there are any) with numbers, then carry out the operations. A+B=C 1+2=3 D-R=M 5-4=1

Formula A general rule for finding the value of something. A formula is often written using letters, called variables that stand for the quantities involved. A=3 B=4 A+B=? D-F=? D=12 F=4

General pattern A list of numbers that follow a certain sequence or pattern.

Rate A comparison by division of two quantities with unlike units.

Special case A special case is the defining formula of a function. A-B=C 5-3=2 R*R=E 6*6=36

Square root The square root of a number n is a number that, when multiplied by itself, gives the number n. * = 5*5=25

Unit rate A rate with 1 in the numerator.
