Great Britain Why do countries have colonies? Used the colonies as a source for raw materials and a market for British goods. −T−T axed Tarring and Feathering a tax collector

French & Indian War ( ) British gained French territory in North America. War costs and defending new territory indebted Britain. British Parliament (legislature) taxed the colonies.
