Team Goals and Philosophy Help players learn skills and develop understanding necessary to become successful lacrosse players Provide a fun, safe and supportive environment in which players develop a love for the sport of lacrosse Teach, exemplify and value respect for the game of lacrosse by demonstrating respect for players, coaches, opponents and officials. We are committed to maintaining a player development philosophy. This means that the growth and development of our players will be the benchmark by which we judge success; – Not by “wins and losses” – Not by “guaranteed equal participation”

Coaches’ Commitment Each player’s experience with this team is important to me. Therefore; I will dedicate myself to providing a save environment for players by strictly adhering to US Lacrosse standard for youth players and teams. I will treat players with the respect that I will expect to receive from them. I will be prepared for practices and games so that the time players and their families invest in this team will be used well. I will be committed to player’s growth and development regardless of their present level of skill.

Team Rules and Expectations for Players When a coach is speaking players are to make eye contact with the coach. This regards when the coach is speaking to groups as well as to individuals. During lacrosse practices and games, players are to concentrate on lacrosse. Other activities and conversations will be re-directed by the coaches. Each player and coach will conduct him or herself in a positive and supportive manner. Older, more skilled players are expected to help and encourage younger or less skilled players. Swearing will not be tolerated and will result in warning and subsequent expulsion from practice or the game. Appropriate protective equipment is mandatory for participation.

Learn Skills; Specifically, we will teach and assess the following fundamental skills and reinforce their proper execution in games and practices. Scoping on the strong hand side Scooping on the weak hand side Cradling on the strong hand side Cradling on the weak hand side Passing with the strong hand Passing with the weak hand Catching with the strong hand Catching with the weak hand Shielding the stick Switching hands with the stick Shooting with the strong hand Shooting with the weak hand Executing a curl with the ball Executing a face dodge Executing a split dodge Executing a roll dodge Executing a bull dodge Defensive stance and footwork Delivering a poke check Delivering a slap check

Schedule and Roster Schedule: – Our season begins on Saturday, April 5 th and continues through to June 14, – Practices will last about 1 ½ hours on weeknights. We practice and play in the rain unless the field conditions and or weather prove to be unsafe. This decision is made by the coaches. – Schedule changes will be handled by the coaches via telephone calls and/or s. If you have a new telephone number, address, or other change, please get this information to coach as soon as possible. If you don’t get a phone call or for a cancellation, there is a practice. – It is most important that all players bring water to practice. As the season moves along, it gets warmer, and the players will need a lot of hydration.

Online Resources The following are helpful online resources for players and families: – US Lacrosse- This is the governing body of American Lacrosse. Contains abundant information about lacrosse as well as US Lacrosse sponsored programs and events. Insurance program information and forms are also available here: – Hudson Valley Lacrosse- This is our league. Access this site for game times, directions and other league information- – LaxShopper.com- This is an online directory and database for lacrosse equipment with easily available to online venders. This is a good resource for making price comparisons- – Minisink Valley Lacrosse - This is the Minisink lacrosse website that features both youth and high school lacrosse news, information, photos, and other lacrosse links.
