Novemebr 5, 2006LSC meeting1 Virgo Update Prospects on detector performance and running schedules B. Mours

Novemebr 5, 2006LSC meeting2 Recent Activities Commissioning activity focused on  Detector/Sensitivity improvements:  Fix & optimize a faraday tuning  Add acoustic isolation in the laser lab  Coil drivers electronic upgrade  Increase the clear aperture of a window  Beam Matching/centering  Controls tuning… Almost shot noise limited at high frequency Started Week-end Science Run (WSR)  Take data during week-end  Shake down the shifts organization, on call procedures, data transfer…  Provide stable data for online analysis, noise studies, and offline pipelines  2 WSR in Sept with good duty cycle (88% and 69%)  2 WSR in October canceled due to interferometer instabilities  Recovery from faraday tuning and acoustic enclosure work not completed at that time  Only one week time between the two of them

Novemebr 5, 2006LSC meeting3 Virgo WSR1 sensitivity

Novemebr 5, 2006LSC meeting4 BNS Horizon BNS Horizon, optimal orientation; SNR=8; WSR1 WSR2 Red curve = 2.7 Mpc-(wind+sea) WSR1 Red curve: 2.7 Mpc -(wind+sea) WSR2

Novemebr 5, 2006LSC meeting5 WSR1: BNS Triggers(0.9-3M  ) Basic cuts + reflected power (“B2”) stability

Novemebr 5, 2006LSC meeting6 WSR1: Burst Triggers (MF) SNR>15 White noise + HI Photodiode B1d2 or B1d3 saturation Limited set of basic cuts Ongoing study to define data quality cuts / vetoes

Novemebr 5, 2006LSC meeting7 WSR1 Noise Budget Control noises (PR, BS) Actuators noise Frequency noise shot noise

Novemebr 5, 2006LSC meeting8 What next ? Next months:  Some detector work:  Add wedges on some auxiliary beams, Additional acoustic enclosure  Continue Commissioning  Improve stability vs weather – Work on the controls (suspension, alignment, …)  Noise hunting  Focus on the intermediate frequency band  One WSR every 3-4 weeks according to schedule of hardware changes  At least one week of noise hunting before a WSR Move to 24/7 Science data taking  We want several months of coincidence with S5  We need to match the LIGO sensitivity in part of the spectrum  Starting date TBD, in the first part of : Shutdown for Virgo+  50W laser, Monolithic suspension, new digital electronics …
