3 Purpose of Evaluation Serves as a basis for the improvement of performance Enhance the implementation of programs Serve as the measurement of satisfactory performance Evaluate the level of performance based on the effectiveness of personnel Prove a basis for making decisions in the areas of hiring, compensation, promotion, assignment, professional development, earning and retaining-non probationary status, dismissal, and non-renewal of contracts

Senate Bill Impact All teachers are on formal evaluation beginning (This means all teachers must be evaluated formally each year) 4

5 Helps improve performance practices, capabilities, and results Facilitates communication and sharing of best practices information among all employees Serves as a working tool for understanding and improving performance Evaluation Tools

Specific Measurable Attainable Research-based Timelines 6 SMART Goals

7 CDE Licensed Probationary Employees First Quarter Orientation (within first 3 weeks of beginning of school) Probationary CDE Licensed Educators * First observation by the end of first quarter (30 minutes minimum with written documentation) * Conference within 10 days of observation

8 CDE Licensed Probationary Employees Second Quarter Second observation -30 minutes minimum -Written documentation Conference within 10 days of observation

9 CDE Licensed Educators Time Lines Non-Probationary (Four plus full years) Orientation (first three weeks of school) Formal Evaluation for all teachers Transition Teachers are not evaluated One Formal Observation (30 minutes) during the School Year Conference within 10 days of observation

10 Concerns Notice of Deficiencies within ten working days of conference. Remediation Plan written within ten working days Employees have the right to request a second evaluator when placed on a Remediation Plan CSEA may attend meetings with the evaluatee Employees have the right to submit a rebuttal to the evaluation
