LIAISON REPRESENTATIVES WHO WE ARE HOW TO GET INVOLVED  Composition of the group is based on the ACA’s dedication to interdisciplinary co-operation and education  The group aims to have one student representative from each department/ faculty  Student representatives may be undergraduate or graduate students interested in aging  Current members include representatives from :  Human Ecology  Nursing  Rehabilitation Medicine  Pharmacy  Psychology  Medicine For more information on becoming the liaison between the ACA and your department contact Misty Whalen at MEMBERSHIP  An interdisciplinary group of student liaison representatives  We encourage active student involvement and promote the study of aging  We act as a bridge between the ACA and students  Student liaisons are volunteer positions  Assist the ACA with organizing and promoting student events such as the aging information resource session and careers in aging luncheon  Recommend strategies for increasing student interest in aging  Promote the ACA on campus  Link students interested in aging from various disciplines  Disseminate educational opportunities related to aging across departments and faculties WHAT WE DO ALBERTA CENTRE ON AGING STUDENT LIAISON GROUP We would like to extend our appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Laurel Strain for supporting our group and providing funding this information poster. We would also like to thank Kristina Babich for her assistance with organizing meetings and student activities as well as supporting our ideas and goals. Tiana Rust is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Psychology. Her research explores caregivers’ beliefs about aging and Alzheimer disease and the effects of these beliefs on the independence of people with Alzheimer disease. Helen Gough is in her first year of doctoral studies in Rehabilitation Science. She is a trained occupational therapist who has worked with older adults in a variety of health care settings. Her primary focus is community health and well-being for currently serving and aging veterans with mental or physical disabilities. Kim Chapman is a first year medical student. She is interested in the health of older adults and hopes to pursue a career in geriatric medicine. Raymond Yan is from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. His age-related interests include medications and pain management for seniors, as well as diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer’s, senescence, and pretty much anything to do with gerontology! Anna Braslavsky is from the Faculty of Science where she is an undergraduate student in psychology department. Her aging research interests are in cognition, pathological aging (Mild Cognitive Impairment, Alzheimer's disease), and decision-making capacity. Misty Whalen is a Masters of Nursing student working towards becoming a geriatric nurse practitioner. Her research interest is complex medication regimes in the elderly population with a focus on patient education and self advocacy. Jennifer Swindle is completing her PhD in the department of Human Ecology. She is a member of the Research on Aging Policies and Practice (RAPP) group within the department. Her research is investigating the social support of older adults in rural Canada.
