ACUPUNCTURE AND MOXIBUSTION treatment

General Principles of Acupuncture Treatment Regulating Yin and Yang Strengthening the Body Resistance and Eliminating the Pathogenic Factors. Distinguishing the Primary from the Secondary

Acupoint prescription Based on the theory of meridians and collaterals, acupuncture prescription includes two or more points which are selected according to the symptoms and cause of the disease, and the functions and the natures of the points, and the manipulation methods, time course.

A. Method of Acupoint Selection Selection of distal points~To select points which are far from the diseased area Selection of left-right points~to select points which are on the contralateral side of the diseased area. Selection of symptomatic points~To select the corresponding points according to some prominent symptoms.

1.Selection of the Local Points Selection of local point~To select points which are nearby the area of the disease or the adjacent area of the disease. Abdominal pain and diarrhea~Tianshu(ST 25),Qihai(RN 6); Headache~Baihui(DU 20),Taiyang(EX 1),Fengchi(GB 20); Eye diseases~Jingming(BL 1),Zanzhu(BL 2),Sizhukong(SJ 23),Tongli(GB 1).

2.Selection of the Distal Points According to the theories of Zangfu and meridians, when we select a distal point which is far from the diseased area,we can either select the points of the merdian where the diseased Zangfu locates or select those(Zang and Fu)merdians or exterior-interior meridians or other related meridians. For esample:

Stomachache~Zusanli(ST 36),Gongsun(SP 4),Taichong(LR 3),Neiguan(PC 6) Lumbago~Weizhong(BL 40) Appendicitis~Lanweixue(EX-LE 7),Shangjuxu(ST 37)

3.Selectiong of the Left-right Points Their characteristics are to treat diseases on one side of the body by needling points on the opposite side. For example,a patient who has lumbago or facial paralysis for a long time can be treated by selecting the related points on the opposite side.
