Presentation transcript:

 Initial symptoms are flu like and could include- fever, myalgia, lethargy and/or gastrointestinal symptoms, cough, sore throat and other non- specific symptoms. The only symptom that is common to all patients appears to be a fever above F. Shortness of breath may occur later. Symptoms usually appear 2–10 days after exposure, but up to 13 days has been reported. In most cases symptoms appear within 2–3 days. About 10–20% of cases require mechanical ventilation.

 In Some Cases of SARS, victims will need mechanical ventilation. This is where the patient has a tube inserted in their airway, to better help them breath. This forces air into their lungs, keeping them alive.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome is a viral respiratory illness caused by a corona-virus, called SARS- associated corona-virus. SARS was first reported in Asia in February of Over the next few months, the illness spread to nearly a dozen countries in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.

 SARS is spread by respiratory droplets produced thru coughing and sneezing, or through close contact such as hugging or sharing food and drinks  SARS can also be spread by contacting a surface or area that is contaminated by infectious droplets.

 Coronavirus is a genus of animal belonging to the family “Coronaviridae.” Coronaviruses are enveloped viruses with a positive sense single stranded RNA genome and a helical symmetry. The general size of the coronaviruses range from kilobases.

 Chinese and European scientists developed a cure for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome in June of 2005  Cinanserin, a medicine previously used to treat Schizophrenia was found to effectively inhibit the coronavirus of SARS
