Work Programme None of us can do it alone

Partnerships and alliances everywhere All of the Work Programme prime’s delivery models work on partnerships –Diverse supply chains –Strategic partnerships and alliances –Sharing information and expertise Supporting 2.5 million jobseekers

Private versus Charity ? Profit versus Not for Profit Charitable versus Commercial Performance Driven versus Social Care Work Programme is about people Supporting each person to do their best It’s about getting the right mix between private and charity drivers

Commercial and Charity alliance MAXIMUS and CDG together can: –Support more Jobseekers –in more place –gain more jobs The alliance is a – win, win, win. –MAXIMUS and CDG win –Local communities win –The jobseekers win

What the alliance brings together MAXIMUS Proven performance management Supply chain management experience Strong financial backing Proven UK delivery model International Welfare to Work delivery experience CDG High performing delivery Local delivery knowledge Community engagement and third sector partnerships Innovations such as CDG Volunteers and e-kwip.me Community reinvestment models

Why an alliance works A commercial view

MAXIMUS’ motivation Help jobseekers find work, making a difference to people, their families and communities Support the DWP, UK government and JCP to meet their goals Deliver a performance driven service that produces profit and creates opportunities for growth Continually develop our best practice service delivery Provide our people with opportunities to grow and develop

MAXIMUS’ alliance experience Continue to build on a successful FND partnership Creative and enthusiastic testing of ideas amongst ‘critical’ friends Opportunity to drive home importance of performance Relocation of heartland from South West to central Southern England Extending coverage and creating opportunities for further growth

MAXIMUS’ lessons learned Like any good relationship, it needs work – keep talking. Be strong within the Alliance – if the relationship is worth it, the alliance can take it! Communicate and review the role of the alliance internally as it evolves. Acknowledge differences – if organisations were the same, what would be the point of working together! Don’t duck the detail. Celebrate successes… together.

Why an alliance works A Third sector view

CDG’s motivation We: fulfills charitable aims helps more jobseekers reduces risks increases influence at all levels make sure the Third Sector is central to the development and delivery of Work Progamme create more surplus to reinvest in communities

CDG’s alliance experience Helping more jobseekers Pan-London coverage (our heartland) Financially viable delivery model National exposure and recognition Evidence of our influence on delivery models Good third sector involvement in all 3 CPAs

CDG’s lessons learned Take time to agree the basis of the alliance Have a written agreement from the start Make sure all staff in both organisations understand the agreed alliance Remember commercial organisations must make profit
