Tips for Formatting Slides Rules to live by: The needs of our students should drive the technological applications Ensure there is a reason for each visual

Tips and Tricks for Graphics Rules to live by: A Reason for each visual Guide to the main point Less is better Use color in your visuals

Keep it Simple Stupid! KISS Keep it Simple Stupid! Less is more Get to the point Don’t put your outline in the slides One picture one quote.

The use of Technology does not replace effective instruction and meaningful content

Truths about Titles Keep headings or titles to no more than 5 words. Use BOLD 36 pt. Type.

Use Color. Make sure your font contrasts the background enough to be seen. Be Careful with Color

Try Different Fonts- Sparingly. Be Uniform Try different fonts. This is Arial Italic This is Arial Italic Bold This is Arial-so is this

Learn how dress up text This is comic sans This is times new roman shading color, italicizing, size, bolding and shading matter!

Remember it’s the Spice not the Main Course! Don’t just use the cool transitions for fun. Again, keep it simple. Formatting just takes time, make sure other things get done first in lesson preparation. Just because you can do it (sounds/transitions) doesn’t mean you should. Technology is to aid you in teaching not to take the place of teaching. Use Technology to engage no inform.

BAD Example: Here is bad color contrast This font is too small Don’t do dumb stuff like this… Don’t burry images in the corners Don’t distort the images

Good Example Nice contrast in color The right size of font Simple Titles Content Organized Good spacing in pictures. No distortion. Not too small, not too big.

Make a Text Box Change Color of Text Change Font Type Change Font Attributes Just highlight whatever text you want to change and click on these buttons to modify them according to your needs!

Format your pictures by resizing them using the little circles to change size. Tip: Hold down SHIFT as you change the picture size and it won’t become distorted.
