Year 2 SATs Information Meeting Wednesday 5th November 2014

Tests will take place during May. Do not stress your child or place any pressure on them. The children will only work on their tests for a small part of each day, during the rest of the school day they tend to complete less stressful activities. The children normally do not know the tests are happening, tables stay the same, no extra pressure just encouraged to try their best. The children have practised old test questions to get used to what the papers look like. The tests cover areas that have been taught during the year. The tests are not pass/fail. Children who are not able to complete the tests are not entered.

How can you help your child? Help your child with their homework tasks. At home encourage your child to read each day. Ask them lots of questions when reading to ensure they understand what they are reading. What do you think will happen next? Why did he/she do that? Who is your favourite character? How is he/she feeling at the moment? Why did the author use that word/punctuation? Find opportunities for your child to use numbers in everyday situations and encourage them to work out questions in their head. For example adding up numbers on car registration plates, counting in steps of 2, 5, 3, and 10 whilst stuck in a car traffic jams, helping weigh ingredients for cakes! How many cakes each? Encourage your child to follow up interests and talk about them. Help your child in school by ensuring they have everything they need and are not tired. Keep up to date with what your child is learning at school and talk about it.

Any Questions?
