Recognise words and phrases to describe myself To be able to write a sentence saying what I look like To be able to use “ Adjective agreements” accurately To be able to write a sentence saying what I look like To be able to use “ Adjective agreements” accurately TU-ES COMMENT?

– “DESCRIBING MY EYES” J’AI LES YEUX BLEUS = I HAVE BLUE EYES J’AI LES YEUX BRUNS = I HAVE BROWN EYES J’AI LES YEUX VERTS = I HAVE GREEN EYES J’AI LES YEUX NOISETTE = I HAVE HAZEL EYES

“DESCRIBING MY HAIR” J’AI LES CHEVEUX BLONDS = I HAVE BLOND HAIR J’AI LES CHEVEUX BRUNS = I HAVE BROWN HAIR J’AI LES CHEVEUX NOIRS = I HAVE BLACK HAIR J’AI LES CHEVEUX ROUX = I HAVE GINGER HAIR J’AI LES CHEVEUX CHÂTAINS = I HAVE CHESTNUT HAIR

Copy the following phrases into your books in French and English J’AI LES CHEVEUX LONGS = I HAVE LONG HAIR J’AI LES CHEVEUX COURTS = I HAVE SHORT HAIR J’AI LES CHEVEUX MI-LONGS = I HAVE MEDIUM LENGTH HAIR

THERE IS ANOTHER WAY TO DESCRIBE YOUR HAIR AND EYES IN FRENCH. MES YEUX SONT BLEUS = MY EYES ARE BLUE MES CHEVEUX SONT BLONDS = MY HAIR IS BLONDE IMPORTANT NOTE.READ CAREFULLY: IN ENGLISH WE TALK ABOUT OUR “HAIR”, BUT IN FRENCH THEY SAY “HAIRS”. THEY ACTUALLY SAY “MY HAIRS ARE BLOND”. THE WORD “SONT” MEANS “ARE” IN ENGLISH, BUT WHEN WE WRITE ABOUT DESCRIBING OUR HAIR, WE STILL WRITE “IS” IN ENGLISH.

DID YOU NOTICE ANYTHING UNUSUAL ABOUT THE COLOR WORDS IN FRENCH WHEN DESCRIBING HAIR AND EYES? LOOK AGAIN AT THESE TWO EXAMPLES… J’AI LES CHEVEUX BLONDS = I HAVE BLOND HAIR J’AI LES YEUX BLEUS = I HAVE BLUE EYES THE COLOR ALSO HAS AN “S”! THIS IS BECAUSE THE COLOR WORD IS BEING USED TO DESCRIBE EYES AND HAIRS. MORE THAN ONE OF SOMETHING IS KNOWN AS “PLURAL”. ADDING THIS EXTRA “S” WHEN DESCRIBING SOMETHING THAT IS PLURAL IS KNOWN AS “AGREEMENT”. MAKING SURE YOU GET THE “AGREEMENTS” CORRECT WILL HELP YOU REACH LEVEL 3. HOWEVER THERE ARE 2 COLORS THAT DO NOT ADD AN “S”, AND THEY ARE “NOISETTE” (HAZEL) AND “MARRON” (ANOTHER WORD FOR BROWN). WHY THIS IS, NOBODY KNOWS!!

When DESCRIBING YOURSELF, THE WORDS FOR EYE COLOR, HAIR COLORS AND STYLES CAN BE COMBINED IN ONE SENTENCE. J’AI LES YEUX VERTS ET LES CHEVEUX BRUNS ET COURTS = I HAVE GREEN EYES AND SHORT, BROWN HAIR.

roux, rousse adj are used to describe the color Red in Hair [cheveux] red Harry a les cheveux roux. Harry has red hair. [personne] red-haired Isobel est rousse. Isobel's got red hair., Isobel's a redhead Il est roux. Il a les cheveux roux. He is redhead He has red hair Elle est rousse. Elle a les cheveux roux. She is redhead She has red hair
