Year 11 GCSE Information Evening 17 th September 2015

Welcome Mr Whiles Headteacher

The year ahead Mr Hilton Director of Raising Achievement

Where are we now? 12 months complete - 9 to go Controlled Assessments in progress / some completed Music/Drama first practicals completed Core Science exams completed Y10 Mocks completed Revision strategy is underway...

The year ahead October - Music Practicals & Drama Practicals January - Mock Exams March - English/Further Maths Mock, PE Practical Exam April - Drama Exam, Art Exam May - GCSE exams begin June - it’s all over! Thursday 25th August - Results Day

Planning ahead Does your child know... Deadlines for Controlled Assessments? Dates of Practical Exams? How to prepare for Mock Exams? What content to revise for each subject? Which subjects to prioritise? Where/who to ask for help? The bigger picture…?

Intervention & Support Mr Dwight Director of Raising Achievement

Year 11 'Raising Achievement' strategy 'At OBHS all students will strive to achieve at least their target grade in all that they do and at all times. All staff will work relentlessly to ensure that every child reaches their full potential.'

Aim To help students achieve their target grades Provide support for students A clear and coordinated approach by all staff toward raising achievement. Clear tracking of students’ progress.

How? Data capture every half term A 'Raising Achievement Strategic Group' will be formed to identify and agree students who require intervention and support. Two groups identified: High Priority - DRA Medium Priority - CL

Tracking and Monitoring All tracking, monitoring and analysis will be conducted using 4Matrix. Each student identified will have a personalised 'Raising Achievement' plan. This plan will be shared with parent/carer on a termly basis. Student Progress to be monitored fortnightly.

Revision & Study Mrs Glenister Deputy Headteacher

Closer focus on Target Grades A lesson by lesson approach

What will this look like? Already have Targets on books Rationale When books/assessments are marked Next steps

What should I look for? Look at the “Next steps” and ensure that appears in future work ( eg writing in detail, giving reasons) As a general rule Grade A work will be detailed, there will be higher level skills, such as making suggestions/arguments, referring to knowledge beyond the work, clearly reasoned evaluations. Grade C work goes beyond simply describing, there should be some explaining, comparing, selecting e.g evidence. In practical subjects the write ups/ development of ideas is crucial. The exercise book will eventually become a key revision resource so bear this in mind – for example when answering questions.

The question is in the answer. Paris Paris is the capital of France. UNESCO has its regional headquarters in Paris. The most densely populated city of the European Union is Paris.

Attitudes to learning focus Presentation Why does it matter? Ruling off organises the work, shows it is complete Dates help to reference when looking back, or identify work missed through absence Sense of pride Handwriting needs to be legible – this is good practice for your exam.

What the examiner sees.
