Presentation transcript:

Ad-Hoc on Application Requirements Provide to the 10G EPON T.F. information on actual deployments by service providers’ requirements world- wide regarding distance, split ratios, power budgets, installed optical transceiver characteristics, video overlay characteristics, co-existence with deployed EPONs, and their response to the need to deploy blocking filters for co- existence. This will be accomplished through surveying service providers and analysis of those replies. Such information will be used by this Ad-Hoc to formulate positions on Wavelength Plans and Optical Power Budgets. All approved

Introduction Letter explaining context of use Status of Task Force & our objectives Option for anonymous use of your answers beyond the Ad-Hoc group. All approved

Application - Survey Questions General: What versions of PON have you deployed? –1G EPON, GPON, BPON, other ____? (?) Interest in deploying 10G EPON

Application - Survey Questions Distance: Distribution of actual deployments – please indicate the percentage of deployed PONs (distance OLT-to-ONU). –<10km____% ONUs –10-20km____% ONUs –>20km____% ONUs (Max distance _____km) Please explain how distance distribution in future deployments (e.g. in 2010) may differ from existing PON deployments. –<10km____% ONUs –10-20km____% ONUs –>20km____% ONUs (Max distance _____km)

Application - Survey Questions Split Ratios: Distribution of actual deployments – please indicate the percentage of deployed PONs with the following split ratios. –<=1:16____% ONUs –1:17 to 1:32____% ONUs –>1:32____% ONUs (Max split ratio ____) Please explain how split ratio distribution in future deployments (e.g. in 2010) may differ from existing PON deployments –<=1:16____% ONUs –1:17 to 1:32____% ONUs –>1:32____% ONUs (Max split ratio ____) What is your budgeted loss per 1:2 split? NOTE: Verify if cascade of splitters affects IL?

Application - Survey Questions Connectors: Do you connectorize your splitters? Do you have a connector between the ONU and the fiber plant? How many connector mated pairs are typically between an OLT and an ONU? How many connector mated pairs are at most between an OLT and an ONU? What is your budgeted loss per mated connector pair at EOL?

Application - Survey Questions Fiber Splices: Do you splice your splitters? Do you have a splice between the ONU and the fiber plant? How many splices are typically between an OLT and an ONU? How many splices are at most between an OLT and an ONU? What is your budgeted loss per splice at EOL?

Application - Survey Questions Loss Budgets: Distribution of actual deployments – please indicate the percentage of deployed PONs with the following loss budgets (including fiber, connectors, splices, splitters, etc.). –<=24dB____% ONUs –25dB____% ONUs –26dB____% ONUs –27dB____% ONUs –28dB____% ONUs –25dB____% ONUs –>28-30dB____% ONUs –>30dB____% ONUs (Max loss ____) Please explain how the loss budget distribution in future deployments may differ from existing PON deployments. NOT YET RESOLVED

Application - Survey Questions Installed Optics: If there is a video overlay, is the video receiver integrated into the transceiver (e.g. triplexer) or not?

Application - Survey Questions Video overlay Characteristics: Do you use a dedicated wavelength for video delivery? Do you plan to use a dedicated wavelength for video delivery in the future? What modulation type do you use? What modulation type do you plan to use? What wavelength range? Power level launched into PON fiber? What CNR do you require at the ONU for such video wavelength?

Application - Survey Questions Co-Existence Preferences: Is co-existence on a single PON important between existing formats and new 10G PON formats? Which existing PON format would this be?

Application - Survey Questions Deployment of Blocking Filters: Would your opinion regarding co-existence change if each legacy ONU on a PON being upgraded required the installation of a blocking filter in order to support co- existence with a new 10G EPON format? All approved
