M340 Modbus Plus Proxy Link legacy systems to Ethernet Product Marketing Connectivity Products

Contents Overview Key benefits What’s in the box Key features Competitive comparison

M340 Modbus Plus Proxy Proxy M340 The M340 Modbus Plus Proxy allows the M340 PLC to communicate with legacy Modbus Plus devices It will allow you to update your control system without replacing the existing network infrastructure Existing Modbus Plus device applications do not have to be modified to communicate with M340 Proxy M340 Modbus Plus Ethernet

Connecting legacy Modbus Plus networks to M340/ Ethernet Web interface configuration SCADA Compact 984 M340 Distributed I/O ModbusPlus Proxy Modbus Plus Ethernet

Key Benefits Reduce commissioning time On-line configuration lets you configure the proxy simply by using your web browser Configuration web pages are similar to Concept/Unity Modbus Plus PeerCop & Global data dialogue screens Supports Global Data broadcasts to all network nodes for easy data exchange PeerCop provides point to point communications without programming Increase network reliability and maintainability Standard diagnostics provide data on all nodes in the network for easy troubleshooting Dual Modbus Plus ports provide Modbus Plus network redundancy Reduce total ownership cost Enable protection of investment in Modbus Plus while moving to Ethernet Dual Ethernet ports allow connection of both the M340 and the configuration PC to the proxy without requiring an additional switch

What’s in the box M340 Modbus Plus Proxy module Mounting plate Read me first document Resource CD M340 User Guide M340 EGD configuration management utility Backup Proxy configuration file Restore Proxy configuration from a file Generate CSV file of Proxy’s configuration

Web configuration Configure the module using a simple web browser interface Configuration web pages are similar to Concept/Unity Modbus Plus PeerCop & Global data dialogue screens Each page has a help button to assist in configuring the Proxy’s parameters

Global Data support The Proxy lets you configure global data in the Modbus Plus network It enables cyclic broadcast exchanges of global data between participating nodes The Proxy can broadcast up to 32 words when a node rotates the token Compact 984 HMI Node #4 Node #3 Node #21 Token Node #5 Node #34 PC with Concept Distributed I/O

PeerCop Specific support The Proxy lets you configure PeerCop Specific in the Modbus Plus network Cyclic Specific inputs and outputs act as a point-to-point-service Every message contains one or more receive addresses for transferring data (enables data to be forwarded to several stations without repetition) Compact 984 HMI Node #4 Node #3 Token Node #21 Node #5 Node #34 PC with Concept Distributed I/O

M340 offset functions Offsets redirect 1x and 3x data from Modbus Plus to M340 PLC Offsets only apply to functions such as MSTR, SCADA and HMI Default values will not conflict with converted legacy applications Default 1x = %M2048, Default 3x = %MW2048 Default PeerCop & Global Data Health write 12 words to %MW3072 in M340 PLC

Legacy offset Legacy offsets address all functions including PeerCop & Global Data legacy compatibility by adding 1 to accommodate for the difference in the starting register location in the M340 PLC when using a converted application. Starting register in M340 PLC is %M0 and %MW0 Legacy offset redirects 100001 to %M1 Legacy offset redirects 400001 requests to %MW1

M340 EGD routing on Modbus Plus Supports 5 byte routing on Modbus Plus using Read_Var & Write_Var Point Read_Var to index and enter routing information

Diagnostics capability Provides Modbus Plus network statistics which includes: Address and status information for the M340 EGD in its role as a node on the Modbus Plus network A count of detected Modbus Plus errors A list of active nodes on the Modbus Plus network

Configuration management utility Windows application to: Backup Proxy configuration to a file on your PC Restore Proxy configuration from a file Generate an Excel report showing only configured values

Upgrading proxy firmware Use Unity Loader to update proxy firmware Same as for M340 PLC Unity Loader v2.0 or higher

Key hardware features Dual power connection LED’s for diagnostics Modbus Plus redundancy Dual Ethernet connection
