Safety & Health Initiatives  Red Alert (an AMTELCO Company software product) –A means of quick communication to thousands via text message or across both campuses when weather-related emergencies, violent episodes or power outages occur –Implementation task force composed of I.T., police, safety and health, student government and residence life representatives (implementation Fall 2007)

Safety & Health Initiatives  PA System Inside Main Campus Buildings –Phase I to include Carlson Library, The Crossings, North Engineering, Gillham Hall, Health & Human Services, Nitschke Hall, Parks Tower, Ottawa East and Ottawa West –Implementation task force composed of I.T., police, safety and health, and maintenance representatives (implementation Spring 2008)

Safety & Health Initiatives  PA System on Main Campus Grounds –To address the issue of mass communication quickly to persons on or about the grounds –Working with Federal Signal Corporation, experienced in PA system installation on military bases –Experts are conducting study to determine ideal locations for PA speaker mountings (recommendation due December 2007)

Safety & Health Initiatives  Health Science Campus (HSC) Safety Features - Overhead paging system throughout buildings –Code Blue telephone devices across campus –Red Alert will include HSC faculty, staff and students –Outdoor PA speaker system planned for 2009

Campus Police Initiatives  Training Initiatives –“Direct to Threat” training –Crisis Intervention Training –Coordinated training with police and residence life staff role play training calls involving drugs and alcohol problem students

Campus Police Initiatives  Resources and Programs –Structured Community Policing –Explosives Detection K-9 Unit –Use of Force Options –Incident Command Vehicle
