Great Plain Region By: Will Faulkner

About the Region The Great Plain Region is located in central United States. The climate is very hot in summers and very cold in winters. Some characteristics of the region were very few trees, rolling hills, and valleys.

Homes of the Great Plains Region The Great Plain indians lived in homes called teepees. They used buffalo hides to cover their homes. Also they used tall poles to hold the teepees up. They were mostly a nomadic group of indians so, their teepees were temporary. The teepees they lived in could easily be folded together so they did not have to make another teepee.

Survival for the Great Plain Indians The Great Plain indians killed and ate buffalo, elk, and antelope. They got most of their food by hunting. The indians moved with the buffalo herds so they would have food.

About the Sioux One tribe in the Great Plain Region is the Sioux. A origin story from this tribe is The Wind Cave Story. The first artifact they used was a teepee. The teepee was made from buffalo hides. They used them to live in. The second artifact they used was the buffalo hide blankets. They were made from buffalo hides. The use of them were to keep people warm during winter.

More from the Sioux The last artifact they used was the shields. They were made up of buffalo skins. They used them for protection from arrows or spears.

Clothing in the Great Plain Region Men wore shirts and leggings made out of deerskin or elk. Women wore one piece dresses made out of buckskin. The environment did affect what they wore. In winter they wore coats and robes.

Fun Fact One ceremony that they celebrated was the sun dance. They also celebrated the ghost dance.

Why I Chose this Region I chose this region because I thought it was very interesting. It was so full of facts. I also chose this region because I thought that it was more of an important region with more facts.
