Work is divided among men & women The highest appreciation for nature (buffalo) Warrior societies Art & religion Language – Each tribe or clan – Sign language to be universal Plains Indians

Hunter/ gatherer society – What does this mean? – Who do you think did what? Plains Indians

Hunters – Strong men & leaders Gatherers – Women, elders, children & the disabled Preparers & Cooks – Women, elders Plains Indians

WOMEN – Oversaw life in house – Gathered food – Built tepees – Passed traditions – Crafts skill = rank in society Plains Indians

MEN – Hunters – Protectors – Pass on knowledge – Pass on legends – Led spiritualized ceremonies – Provide military leadership – Prove bravery & ability Plains Indians
