21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership Dr. John Maxwell Introducti on Video Viewed and Presentation Created: Current Date

Dr. Maxwell has studied the principles of leadership for more than twenty years. He tested the principles in an attempt to determine if they were in fact “laws of leadership”.

Is it a Law of Leadership? Tests to determine if a “principle” of leadership is in fact a “law” of leadership  A law must be obeyed!  A law must be the truth!

Qualifying Tests If the principal is a law it must: 1. Not be based on culture, gender or age  The law is true in any country or society  It applies to both female and male  It make no difference how old the person or circumstances

Qualifying Tests If the principal is a law it must: 2. Relate to all communities  The law must apply to  Government  Education  Business  Any community

Qualifying Tests If the principal is a law it must: 3. Recognized by other leaders  Experts/Leaders in all areas  Must agree that it is a law

Qualifying Tests If the principal is a law it must: 4. Stand the test of time  It always was a law, it is a law and it will continue to be a law  19 th – 20 th – 21 st centuries

Observations about Leadership Laws These Laws can be learned  You can learn the laws  Some people will learn more easily These Laws stand alone  You do not have to learn the laws in order  Every law you learn you will become a better leader These Laws carry consequences  If you obey the law, good things will happen  Disobey and bad things will happen These Laws are the foundation of Leadership  If you do not know a law, you may not be able to lead  Leadership is built off of these laws

Leadership Laws & Project Management Challenge  We know the Laws of Leadership can be learned  We must determine how the laws apply to project managers and project team members  Every law we learn and apply to project management will make us better project management leaders These leadership/project management laws carry consequences  If we learn and obey the leadership/project management laws our projects stand a better chance of being successful  Disobey leadership/project management laws and bad things will happen to our projects

Good leadership or good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of the good judgment comes from our previous bad judgments! -- Will Rogers
