Class 201 PAGE 2 Our attitude toward our “stuff” What is a steward? “Someone who manages property or other affairs for someone else” We and everything we have and are, are God’s. He is the owner So we are stewards over ourselves- and everything He gives us. Our Time, our Talent, our Treasure and our heart.

Class 201 PAGE 2 Our attitude toward our “stuff” Why is it important to know about stewardship? 1. To know how I can respond to God’s goodness by becoming a better steward of what He has given me. 2. To inspire other Christians to a greater level of commitment to Christ’s Kingdom through ministry. 3. To financially position our church for a greater level of ministry by increasing our weekly offerings.

Class 201 PAGE 2 Our attitude toward our “stuff” Matt 6:21 "Where your treasure is, there your heart is also." "Where your heart is, there your treasure is also."

Class 201 PAGE 2 Our attitude toward our “stuff” What is God’s will in my giving?

Class 201 PAGE 2 Our attitude toward our “stuff” Matt 6: "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.

Class 201 PAGE 2 Our attitude toward our “stuff” Matt 6: But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

Class 201 PAGE 2 Our attitude toward our “stuff” Luke 18: A certain ruler asked him, "Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" 19 "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good— except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother."

Class 201 PAGE 2 Our attitude toward our “stuff” Luke 18: "All these I have kept since I was a boy," he said. 22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." 23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was a man of great wealth.

Class 201 PAGE 2 Our attitude toward our “stuff” Psalm 24:1 Deuteronomy 8:11-14 Remember:

Class 201 PAGE 2 Our attitude toward our “stuff” It’s not wrong for me to have stuff- as long as stuff doesn’t have me. Take-away:

Class 201 PAGE 2 A Personal Inventory What would 10% of our household income total? Can I begin giving a tithe (10%)? Is it time to go beyond the tithe? What can I do over the next few years to generate additional income that will help me develop a sense of ownership in ministry, support a mission or pay down church debt? What item(s) of value do I own (real estate, stocks, bonds, personal possessions, etc.) that I can sell in order to give a one time gift to a special ministry related to our church’s ministry? What can I give up, do without, postpone, or alter in order to help us reach new levels of ministry?
