GAA CODE OF BEST PRACTICE (YOUTH PLAYERS & PARENTS)

 THE PRIMARY ROLE OF THE ROCKCORRY GAA CLUB IS TO ENSURE THAT THE PLAYERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO LEARN AND PLAY THE GAMES OF FOOTBALL, IN A SAFE AND FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT. ALL PLAYERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE, MAKE FRIENDS AND ABOVE ALL, ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE.

 IN ADDITION, THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PLAYER'S INTERPERSONAL AND SOCIAL SKILLS IS ALSO CONSIDERED IMPORTANT.  PARTICIPATING AS A ROCKCORRY GAA PLAYER SHOULD BE A CREATIVE AND POSITIVE EXPERIENCE, IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF EACH INDIVIDUAL.

 THIS CODE OF BEST PRACTICE FOR YOUTH PLAYERS AND THEIR PARENTS OUTLINES THE RULES AND PROCEDURES WHICH SHOULD BE OBSERVED AND PRACTISED TO ENSURE THAT EVERYONE WILL ENJOY THEIR INVOLVEMENT WITH ROCKCORRY GAA FOOTBALL CLUB.

 1. RESPECT, COURTESY AND HONESTY ARE REQUIRED OF EVERY MEMBER OF THE CLUB.  2. ALL ROCKCORRY GAA YOUTH PLAYERS MUST BE REGISTERED AS MEMBERS OF THE CLUB ON AN ANNUAL BASIS WITH THEIR PARENT’S/GUARDIAN'S CONSENT.  3. RESPECT MUST BE SHOWN AT ALL TIMES FOR TEAM MATES, COACHES, OFFICIALS, REFEREES, PARENTS,GUARDIANS, OPPONENTS AND VISITORS.

 4. ROCKCORRY GAA PLAYERS MUST ALWAYS RESPECT CLUB PROPERTY AND SHOULD HAVE REGARD FOR THEIR OWN AND OTHERS’ PERSONAL BELONGINGS. VANDALISM AND ABUSE OF THE CLUB’S FACILITIES WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.  5. CRUDE OR OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND BULLYING OF ANY DESCRIPTION WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.  6. ALL PLAYERS SHOULD ACT AS AMBASSADORS FOR THE CLUB AT ALL TIMES, ESPECIALLY FOR AWAY GAMES AND ON AWAY OUTINGS.

 7. LOITERING IN THE VICINITY OF THE CLUB GROUNDS, DRESSING ROOMS AND CAR PARK, SO AS TO CAUSE OFFENCE TO OTHER CLUB TEAMS DURING TRAINING/GAMES, CLUB MEMBERS, VISITING TEAMS OR MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC, IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. [SUPPORT FROM STAND]  8. ALL UNDER-AGE ROCKCORRY PLAYERS ARE ADVISED TO REFRAIN FROM THE USE OF ALCOHOL, NON PRESCRIPTION DRUGS AND TOBACCO.  10. PARENTS/GUARDIANS ARE REQUIRED TO COLLECT THEIR CHILDREN PROMPTLY FROM TRAINING AND GAMES.

 1. ROCKCORRY GAA PLAYERS SHOULD PLAY FAIRLY, TRY THEIR BEST AT ALL TIMES, ENJOY THEMSELVES AND ALWAYS ADHERE TO THE PLAYING RULES OF FOOTBALL.  2. ALL PLAYERS ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND FOR ALL TRAINING AND GAMES, EXCEPT IN EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES, AND, OUT OF COURTESY, INFORM THEIR MANAGER IN ADVANCE, WHEN SUCH OCCASIONS ARISE. [YEARLY FIXTURES PLAN > FAMILY HOLIDAYS]

 3. ALL PLAYERS ARE REQUESTED TO BE PUNCTUAL FOR BOTH TRAINING AND GAMES AND TO BE PROPERLY ATTIRED WITH THE CORRECT PLAYING GEAR. THE WEARING OF GUM SHIELDS (COMPULSORY BY 2012) IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED DURING BOTH TRAINING AND GAMES. PLAYERS SHOULD BRING THEIR OWN WATER BOTTLE TO TRAINING & GAMES.  4. THE USE OF PHOTOGRAPHIC EQUIPMENT I.E. CAMERAS AND PICTURE MOBILE PHONES IS NOT PERMITTED IN THE DRESSING ROOMS.

 5. THE CHEWING OF GUM AND EATING OF FOOD WHILST TRAINING OR PLAYING A GAME ARE FORBIDDEN.  6. RESPECT MUST BE SHOWN FOR YOUR OPPONENTS AND TEAM-MATES, REGARDLESS OF ABILITY, ETHNIC ORIGIN, CULTURAL BACKGROUND OR RELIGION.  7. DECISIONS BY OFFICIALS AND REFEREES MUST BE ACCEPTED GRACEFULLY – ‘RESPECT INITIATIVE’.

 8. ROCKCORRY GAA PLAYERS SHOULD REPRESENT THEIR FAMILY AND CLUB WITH PRIDE, DIGNITY AND COMMITMENT.  9. IRRESPECTIVE OF THE RESULT, BEFORE AND AFTER THE GAME YOU SHOULD SHAKE HANDS WITH YOUR OPPONENTS, SUPPORT FELLOW TEAM MEMBERS, THANK THE REFEREE AND YOUR COACHES.  10. BE MODEST IN VICTORY AND GRACIOUS IN DEFEAT.

 11. TALK TO YOUR COACH, THE CLUB CHILDREN’S/YOUTH OFFICER OR CHAIRMAN WITH ANY CONCERNS OR QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE.  12.TELL SOMEBODY ELSE IF YOU FEEL YOU OR OTHERS ARE IN DANGER OR HAVE BEEN HARMED IN ANY WAY.

PARENTS AND GUARDIANS SHOULD:  1. ALWAYS ENCOURAGE AND SUPPORT YOUR CHILD IN THEIR SPORT.  2. BE FAMILIAR WITH THE MENTORS WHO ARE COACHING YOUR CHILD - HAVE CONTACT NUMBERS.  3. BEHAVE RESPONSIBLY AT ALL TRAINING/GAMES.  4. BRING CHILDREN TO AND FROM TRAINING ON TIME.  5. ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO PLAY BY THE RULES AND ALWAYS ADHERE TO THE CODE OF BEST PRACTICE -AS OUTLINED ABOVE.

 6. ENSURE YOUR CHILD HAS THE PROPER TRAINING/PLAYING GEAR AND A WATER BOTTLE.  7. SUPPORT THE COACHES AND HELP OUT WHEREVER NECESSARY-ESPECIALLY AT COACHING SESSIONS.  8. ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD IS REGISTERED AND A PAID-UP YOUTH MEMBER FOR EACH PLAYING SEASON.  9. RESPECT THE COACHES' DECISIONS AND ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILDREN TO DO THE SAME.

 10. SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR YOUR CHILD/TEAM BY ATTENDING MATCHES ON A REGULAR BASIS AND ASSISTING IN THE ORGANISATION OF CLUB ACTIVITIES.  11. INFORM YOUR CHILD’S COACH, IN ADVANCE, REGARDING UNAVAILABILITY FOR GAMES AND/OR ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO DO SO.  12. INFORM YOUR CHILD’S COACHES IF YOUR CHILD HAS A MEDICAL CONDITION- SEE MEMBERSHIP FORM.

 13. SHOW APPRECIATION TO VOLUNTEERS, MENTORS AND CLUB OFFICIALS.  14. TALK TO YOUR CHILD’S COACH, THE CLUB CHILDREN’S/YOUTH OFFICER OR CHAIRMAN IF YOU BELIEVE THAT YOUR CHILD’S SAFETY IS IN ANY WAY COMPROMISED.

 1. THE COACH IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DISCIPLINE WITHIN HIS/HER GROUP AND BY SPEAKING DIRECTLY TO THE PLAYER CAN DEAL WITH MINOR BREACHES OF THE CODE OF BEST PRACTICE.  2. SHOULD THERE BE CONTINUOUS BREACHES OF THE CODE THE COACH WILL ADVISE THE PARENTS /GUARDIAN AND REQUEST THEIR SUPPORT IN RESOLVING THE ISSUE(S).THE CLUB YOUTH OFFICER SHALL BE INFORMED OF THIS COURSE OF ACTION.  3. SHOULD NO IMPROVEMENT BE FORTHCOMING THE CLUB YOUTH OFFICER OR OTHER CLUB OFFICER SHALL SPEAK WITH THE PLAYER CONCERNED AND WITH THE PLAYER’S PARENTS.

 4. IN THE CASE OF A SERIOUS BREACH OF INDISCIPLINE OR CONTINUOUS MISBEHAVIOUR THE COACH SHALL FORMALLY REPORT THE MATTER TO THE YOUTH OFFICER OF ROCKCORRY GAA CLUB WHO SHALL REFER THE MATTER TO THE COMMITTEE.  5. THE COMMITTEE SHALL THEN APPOINT TWO OFFICERS TO SPEAK WITH THE PLAYER AND PARENTS/GUARDIANS TO TRY AND RESOLVE THE MATTER.

 6. SHOULD NO SATISFACTORY RESPONSE BE FORTHCOMING, THE COMMITTEE MAY IMPOSE A SUSPENSION FROM THE CLUB, WITHDRAW MEMBERSHIP OR, IN EXTREME CASES, EXPULSION.  THE COMMITTEE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SUSPEND AN INDIVIDUAL FOR A SERIOUS BREACH OF THE CODE OF BEST PRACTICE.  7. PERSONAL HEARINGS WILL BE GRANTED TO THE PLAYER/PARENTS/GUARDIANS BY THE ROCKCORRY GAA COMMITTEE AT ALL STAGES IF SOUGHT OR REQUIRED.

This Code of Best Practice addresses the minimum levels of behaviour, practice and conduct required from our young players and their parents/guardians. DECLARATION We acknowledge that we have received a copy of the Code of Best Practice for Young People and their parents/guardians, which we have read and understood in full. We agree to be bound by the principles set out in the Code.
