Executive Departments Largest part of the executive branch Work with carrying laws and running agencies President appoints a head to each executive branch Must be approved by Senate Cabinet – Core group of advisors to the president

Independent Agencies Approximately 60 Three types – Executive Agencies Under direct control of the President (EPA) – Regulatory Commissions Congress formed 12 (FCC CPSC) Free from political influences – Government corporations Similar to private business  make a profit (Postal Service) Congress still has a say as to how things go Civil Service program was established to allow positions to be filled on merit
