Stages of OT Process: Referral Point at which initial request for services for particular client at a change in the degree and direction of services is made Self – referral Referred by a physician, another professional, or another agency

Stages of OT Process: Screening gather preliminary information about the client

Screening process may involve: review of the client’s records use of screening test interview with the client and caregiver observation of the client discussion of the client’s referral source determine whether further evaluation and OT intervention is warranted

Stages of OT Process: Assessment and Evaluation Assessment – sum of the evaluation results which provide a composite picture of the client’s level of function Process where: data gathered about the client problems are identified hypothesis is formulated decisions are made for treatment intervention

Stages of OT Process: Assessment and Evaluation Evaluation – series of test used to measure an individual skills and deficits Evaluation Procedure - specific methods or techniques used to collect information during the evaluation stages

Forms of Evaluation Procedure Medical record review Skilled observation Interview Tests (standardized and non-standardized)

Stages of OT Process: Treatment Plan is the recommendations made for OT intervention based on an analysis of the information accumulated during assessment

Factors to Considers in Treatment Planning strengths and weaknesses interest of the client and caregivers estimation of rehabilitation potential expected outcome frequency and duration of treatment recommended methods and media apparent environmental and time constraint identification of a plan for re-evaluation discharge planning

Stages of OT Process: Implementation of Treatment and Re – Evaluation Treatment implementation putting the treatment plan in place, working with the client through to reach treatment goals educating the client, family and caregiver

Stages of OT Process: Implementation of Treatment and Re - Evaluation Re-evaluation - an on-going process to: keep up to date on changes remain aware of circumstances or needs that arises change the direction of treatment, temporarily or permanently

Stages of OT Process: Transition Services is the coordination or facilitation of services for the purpose of preparing the client for a change it may involve a change to a new functional level, life stage, program, or environment are individualized to meet the goals, needs and environmental consideration of each client

Stages of OT Process: Service Discontinuation client is discharged from OT when he has reached the goals delineated in the treatment plan or when it is determined that he or she has realized the maximum benefits of OT services

Discharge Plan and Summary Discharge plan – conforms to the personal goals and addresses the resources available in the community Discharge summary – summary of the status of the client’s functional level at the time of discharge, it may contain the plans for discharge, equipment and services recommended after discharge

The Process of Occupational Therapy Highlights of the Process of OT (OTPF) Process is dynamic and interactive in nature Context is an overarching, underlying, embedded influence on the process of service delivery

The Process of Occupational Therapy Highlights of the Process of OT (OTPF) Client is used to name the entity that receives OT services Client – centered approach is used throughout the framework

The Process of Occupational Therapy Highlights of the Process of OT (OTPF) “Engagement in Occupation” is viewed as the overarching outcome of the OT process

The Process of Occupational Therapy Evaluation Evaluating occupational needs, problems and concerns Intervention Focus is on occupation and to foster engagement in such Targeting Intervention Outcomes
