SREC Update Process Special ReminderSpecial Reminder The total Level of Effort (LOE) in staff months (sm) for each development organization can not be increasedThe total Level of Effort (LOE) in staff months (sm) for each development organization can not be increased Only way new items can be added without new money would be to remove a task of comparable LOE and software development expertiseOnly way new items can be added without new money would be to remove a task of comparable LOE and software development expertise

SREC Recommended Updates to OB8.1 BackgroundBackground SREC has regular update cycles to incorporate new high priority requirements that are identified after the baseline was finalized for OB8SREC has regular update cycles to incorporate new high priority requirements that are identified after the baseline was finalized for OB8 –OB8 SREC – July 31, 2006 (completed) Briefed to OEC on 10/26/06Briefed to OEC on 10/26/06 –OB8.1 – November 1, 2006 Briefed todayBriefed today –OB8.2 – March 1, 2007 (in progress) Will be briefed March 2007Will be briefed March 2007 –OB8.3 – July 1, 2007

SREC Recommended Updates to OB8.1 Recommended Change for OB8.1Recommended Change for OB8.1 Accommodate development of the Clustered Peers CONOPS prototypeAccommodate development of the Clustered Peers CONOPS prototype –Rationale: Development requested by Corporate Board –Build Impact: GSD has more work than staff. Needed to cut back on AWIPS development tasks to provide GSD staffing for CONOPS –Development: GSD – only group with necessary experience –SREC recommends the following actions for the AWIPS tasks on Page 5 with the noted concerns and risk mitigation Approved by SREC Voting members (unanimous) on December 4, 2006Approved by SREC Voting members (unanimous) on December 4, 2006

SREC Recommended Updates to OB8.1 Task Level of Effort Changes RiskMitigation Software Maintenance Technology Transfer to Raytheon Cut from 9 months to 4 months None. This task did not take as long as originally planned. GSD still available to help Raytheon developers if necessary AWIPS Evolution: Development Tool Kit Evaluation Cut from 15 months to 10 months Insufficient review of ADE/SDK Rely more on all development organizations for input on ADE/SDK Backlog DRs Decrease from 2 to 1 staff months None. GSD should be working on new development as opposed to correcting DRs. n/a Next Generation Warning Tool Cut from 4 months to 0 months Requirements will not be completely defined because GSD staff will not be available for Stage 2 exploratory research and prototyping. Re-focus effort for AWIPS II development Ensembles/Probabilistic Forecasting Cut from 7 months to 2 months Requirements will not be completely defined. GSD staff will not be available for Stage 2 exploratory research and prototyping. This is a key Strategic activity requested since OB6 SREC Make better use of field and NCEP expertise in this area AWIPS Software Training Capability Cut from 7 months to 2 months GSD staff will not be available for Stage 2 exploratory research and prototyping. This is a key Strategic activity requested since OB6 SREC Use Training Center experience with WES to supplement GSD knowledge base

SREC Recommended Updates to OB8.1 Recommended Change for OB8.1Recommended Change for OB8.1 Add Risk Reduction Through GFESuite Pre-ReleasesAdd Risk Reduction Through GFESuite Pre-Releases –Request by SREC –Rationale: Helps flush out early problems with GFE formatters and improve code quality. Similar to early RAP process –Development: Raytheon –Build Impact: No additional software development effort. This should improve quality and help eliminate finding DRs in the field Add Decode and Display HPC QPF GridsAdd Decode and Display HPC QPF Grids –Requested by June 12, 2003 Corporate Board –Rationale: Supports prototyping OB8.3 - NCEP Short/Med Range Models –Build Impact: None Approved by SREC Voting members (unanimous) on December 4, 2006Approved by SREC Voting members (unanimous) on December 4, 2006

SREC Recommended Updates to OB8.3 Recommended Changes to OB8.3Recommended Changes to OB8.3 Remove Radar Acquisition Improvements (xx-xxx)Remove Radar Acquisition Improvements (xx-xxx) –Recommendations suggested by NGIT NCF. Both problems have been resolved NCF was tracking performance issues with the One Time Request (OTR) and Radar Multiple Request (RMR) functionality based on AWIPS sites reporting the Class 2 interface remains open when the ORPG generates a General Status Message (GSM) back to a requestor (in this case, AWIPS) but fails to recognize the request itself. Since this problem cannot be corrected until ORPG Build 8.0, a workaround has been developed and is being employed.
