 An employee is an individual who was hired by an employer to do a specific job.  The employee is hired by the employer after an application and interview process results in his or her selection as an employee.

 As an employee, you are entitled to receive certain basic employment rights Here is an Example of some of these rights  An Employee has the right to a payslip  Most experienced adult workers in Ireland are entitled to be paid €8.65 per hour.  A maximum working week average of 48 hours a week  Unpaid breaks during working hours

 All employees are entitled to receive a pay slip with every payment of wages. This pay slip should show gross wage (wage before deductions) and the nature and amount of each deduction.

 The National Mininum Wage (from 1st July 2011) is €8.65 per hour  Employees who are in their first year of employment since turning the age of 18 (€6.92 per hour)  Employees who are under 18 years of age (€6.06 per hour)

A trade union is an organisation made up of members (a membeship-based organisation) and its membership must be made up mainly of workers. One of a trade union's main aims is to protect and advance the interests of its members in the workplace. An example of a trade union is SIPTU

An employer is a legal entity that controls and directs a servant or worker under an express or implied contract of employment and pays (or is obligated to pay) him or her salary or wages in compensation. As an employer, it is your responsibility to ensure all your employees receive certain basic employment rights.
