Creative Commons Making Sharing Easier

Creative Commons WebQuest O Introduction Introduction O Task Task O Process Process O Evaluation Evaluation O Conclusion Conclusion O Credits Credits

Introduction O A major art studio from Paris is looking to branch out into the digital age. They are searching for the next great piece of digital artwork. It is their hope that this artwork will inspire others to begin creating wonderful works of art in the digital realm. Perhaps most importantly, they are willing to pay handsomely for the winning piece of art. You are a young, broke, up and coming artist. This contest may be your big break (and let’s face it, you could use the money).

Task O Your job is to create a piece of art using PhotoShop or any other photo editing tool you can find. This will be accompanied by a short paper which will explain the type of Creative Commons license you chose and why. Since you are now familiar with copyright laws be sure you give credit to the original authors if you decide to edit photos. You will begin by researching and learning about Creative Commons so you know which of their licenses best suites your needs.

Process O We already know how confusing and restrictive traditional copyright laws can be. If you need a refresher, click on the link below to listen to a catchy tune. O O Creative Commons aimed to create an easier way of sharing material. Click on the link below. You may want to jot down some important ideas; they could come in handy for your paper. O O Now that you know why Creative Commons was formed, take a look at this cool commercial that explains what Creative Commons does. Again, notes are not a bad idea… O O Click the arrow button to continue learning about Creative Commons

Process O To wrap up our overview of Creative Commons, read through this short article to tie together everything that we have been learning. O O By now you should have a good understanding of what Creative Commons does. Now, lets move on to the types of licenses you can get through Creative Commons. The first link will take you to a video created by CC Aotearoa New Zealand. The second link will take you to a website that lists all of the different CC licenses. You will be filling out the document that you downloaded at the beginning of the lesson. O O O You should now have all the information you need to write your paper. Remember, you must choose a specific CC license and explain your rationale.

Evaluation O Click the link below to see your rubric for this project. (Note: You may have to minimize this PowerPoint to see the webpage) O Artwork and paper rubric Artwork and paper rubric

Conclusion O Now that you have learned about Creative Commons, you are ready to create your artwork and write your paper. Be sure to use the rubric as a guide when you are writing. Have fun!
