Networking Components Judah Dolph
Welcome and Introduction This presentation will show several key components required in computer networking and their price range The overall goal of this presentation is to provide the audience with an understanding of what each component is and how it works Welcome and Introduction
This presentation will cover 7 components and their price range. Hub Switch Router Bridge Gateway Firewall Wireless AP Each of these separate components fit together to create a working network Overview
Hub serve as a central connection for all network equipment Hub serve as a central connection for all network equipment. It also transports frames containing data to the destined PC. $50-$800 Hub
The switch connects devices together on a computer by handling packets and forwarding them to the destination Hub which in turn distributes the information to the destination PC. $100-$5000 Switch
The router is connected to more than 1 network The router is connected to more than 1 network. It forwards packets of data between the two or more networks. $20- $2000 Router
The bridge provides interconnectivity between other network bridges that use the same protocol. $50-$12,000 Bridge
The gateway serves as an entrance node to another network The gateway serves as an entrance node to another network. Gateways are the internet service providers that connect users at home to the internet. (AT&T, Time Warner etc…) $200-$5000 Gateway
The Firewall protects the home or business computer from outside threats by filtering packets, and blocking certain IP addresses. $80-$50,000 Firewall
The Wireless AP is a device that allows wireless access to a wired Ethernet network. $100-$4,000
