What is Water Scarcity Water is the essence of all life on Earth. It is one of the basic necessities of life. But, the reality, is that, despite being the 21st century, many human beings still don't have access to clean reliable water. Studies show that we use about gallons at home daily. 75% of the Earth’s surface is composed of water Only 3% of Earth’s water is freshwater Of the 3%, 70 % is locked in icebergs, ice caps, and in glaciers 29% of freshwater is under ground and the remaining 1% is underground So, only 30% of 3% of earth’s freshwater is accessible

What is Desalination Desalination is one of the methods that we can use to fight water scarcity around the world. Desalination uses reverse osmosis technology to remove salt from the water It is especially effective to countries that have long coastlines and a arid climate, as it becomes a reliable source of water. It is the process of converting the salty water from the ocean into clean drinkable water. One of the major drawbacks to the desalination process is that it takes a lot of energy and money to carry it out

Desalination in Israel On the coast of Israel, desalination is one of the major ways they get their water. One plant in the town of Ashqelon produces almost 5% of all the freshwater in Israel

Conclusion Although the majority of the earth is made up of water, only a very little portion of that is drinkable, and of that, a very tiny portion is accessible. Desalination is a way to convert the salty water from the ocean into drinkable water for people. Israel uses the desalination process to take advantage of the water available to them on their coast.
