 Head  Heart  Feet

“ I don’t give a fig for the simplicity this side of complexity, but I would die for the simplicity on the other side of complexity ” (Chief Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes)

Learning and focusing on the basics of how to communicate well and then doing it are key to leveraging your success as a communicator.

* Assertive * Animated * Attentive * Accurate

 Assertive: You can easily speak your mind, directly and to the point!  Animated: You are a talkative person who is interactive, engaging and energetic!  Attentive: You are a good listener, wait your turn and are very supportive and compassionate when you speak.  Accurate: You are analytical, focus on details and speak concisely and accurately.

 Confident of outcome  Quick and Decisive  Move forward aggressively

 Task and Personality Equilibrium  Relationships!  Connection vs. Command  Awareness of Other Styles

 Informal, LOTS of talk!  High energy, creative, expressive  People energized

 Not detail oriented  Can ignore conclusions or facts  May be drawn to experience more than the people  Talking instead of listening

 Genuinely care for the person  Communicate connection and acceptance  “Read” more than hear words

 Not everyone “feels” like you do  Focus on purpose and process like you do pain

 Strategic, detailed, consistent  See obstacles and hurdles  Deal in facts

 Lack of patience  Rigidity and inflexibility  Perfectionism

Who am I? What am I presenting? Who am I presenting to? “When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.” (Matthew 7:28-29, NIV)

 Memorable?  Unique?  Interesting?  Beneficial?

“your network (team) should not look just like you. If it does, you have an anthill, not a network.” ( Harvey MacKay, Dig Your Well Before You are Thirsty )
