 Number of main points  In classroom speeches you generally don’t have time to develop more than 4  If you have too many points your audience will have trouble sorting them out.  If you have too many main points, see if you can group them into categories

 Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about…  Central idea (thesis) There are three main issues about…  Main Points:  I  II  III The three main points form the body of the speech

 Balance the amount of time between main points  a large imbalance means the other points aren’t really main points or you haven’t given those points enough attention  Some imbalance is ok: 20%, 30%, 50% vs 85%, 10%, 5%

 Drawing attention to a point  I think it’s very significant that…  As you have noticed…  As you can see…  So you will, no doubt, see instantly that…  I’d now like to draw your attention to…
