The capital The capital of the country is Washington. It is situated on the Potomac River. It was chosen by George Washington as the permanent site for their nation’s capital.

The USA The population is 250 million people The official language is English. But the English language spoken in the USA is known as American English. There are 50 states in the USA.

The flag The flag is called “Stars and Stripes” The 50 stars stand for the 50 states of the Union, and the 13 stripes stand for the original 13 states.

N e w Y o r k There is no city like New York. It is known as «The City That Never Sleeps». The Statue of Liberty - a symbol of freedom is situated here.

L o s A n g e l e s Los Angeles is very big, noisy and famous all over the world because there is Hollywood. In Hollywood American films are made. And near Los Angeles there is wonderful fairy land called Disneyland.
