Assignment 4 IP Network and Addressing CSIT 220 Assigned: 10/10/2006 Due: 10/19/2006

Exercise for Chapter 6 This assignment is meant to re-enforce materials from Chapter 6 This assignment should be prepared in a word document and submitted to WebCT. We will be starting this assignment in class. You must complete all the parts into a word document and submit grading.

How do decide on subnets? 5 points The IP Address has two octets of network prefix and two octets of network suffix. That means that the subnet mask is Compute and record the address mask in dotted decimal notation if the third octet is used for subnet addressing.

Network Mapping 20 points Use the configuration on the next page to show connections between the networks, routers and computers. Determine a router table for R1, R2, R3 and R4

Network Intranet AB R1R2 CD R3 EF R4 GHJK Net 1 Net 2 Net 3 Net 4 Net 5

More Network Routes 40 points Determine a route from A to K Determine a route from B to D Determine a route from G to F Determine a route from H to J Show the router table movements

Network Addresses Use the intranet network diagram. You are going to determine a set of network addresses. Use the third octet as the subnet octet and assign a unique subnet address to each of the networks. For each network, what is the subnet address in dotted decimal notation.

Network Addresses 5 points Network 1 Network 2 Network 3 Network 4 Network 5 ______________

Hop Approaches 30 points Using the next hop approach, what are the routing tables for data to transfer between the computers A to C B to H D to F
