Question How does the addition of alcohol to energy drinks affect the body of a Palaemantes Paludousus?

Purpose The reason I am doing this project is because there are too many people dying from the use of these harmful drinks. For the last four years I have been trying to educate children and parents about the use of these drinks through my research. With this experiment I am continuing my development of my education into the field so I can spread the information to others.

Hypothesis I think that the addition of alcohol to the energy drink will increase the chances of the heart stopping or some type of Arrhythmia (not normal heart beat rhythm).

Research Heart Brain Tissue

Research The Ghost Shrimp: Females are larger than males Also called glass shrimp because they are clear Type of feeder shrimp often used in larger aquariums to Clean the tank or as fish food Maximum size is two inches Palaemantes Paludousus

Research Smirnoff triple distilled vodka 40% alc/vol Made in Norwalk, Connecticut Distilled from grain Nutrition facts -69g calories -0g fat -0g carbs -0g protein

Research In 2011, sales of the beverage category of “energy shots” rose to 1 billion dollars. 5 hour leads the category with increased sales of 45.3%, which yielded million dollars. The energy drinks category increased 15.7% yielding 6.9 billion dollars for the 52 weeks prior to May 15, Share of volume by region in the U.S. in 2008 : West-42.4%, South- 27.8%, Midwest-18.9%, North East-10.8%.

Materials Vodka Red Bull Ghost shrimp Cups Microscope Pipettes Timer Flashlight Graduated cylinder Slides

Procedure 1.Prepare concoctions by mixing the following amounts of Red Bull with vodka: -10 mL of Red Bull and 0 mL of vodka: 0% -8.5 mL of Red Bull and 1.5 mL of vodka: 15% -7.5 mL of Red Bull and 2.5 mL of vodka: 25% -5 mL of Red Bull and 5 mL of vodka: 50% -2.5 mL of Red Bull and 7.5 mL of vodka: 75% -1.5 mL of Red Bull and 8.5 mL of vodka: 85% -0 mL of Red Bull and 10 mL of vodka: 100%

Procedure (continued) 1.Remove one ghost shrimp with the net and place it in the cup with a little of its own water. 2.Use microscope to count the heart beats for one minute. 3.Add a drop of a substance in the water. 4.Wait one minute. 5.Count the beats for one minute. 6.Repeat steps 1-5 For each trial for each concoction making sure to record your data after you count each time. 7.Do this for the different concoctions of energy drink and vodka.

Conclusion This experiment went as I had hypothesized with a few twists and turns. As the alcohol was added to the drinks, the heart beats became sporadic and eventually weakened them to the effects of the energy drink. However, there was one thing that completely surprised me. When the percentage of alcohol started to become greater than the energy drinks, the central area between the eyes where most neurological transmission happens, started swelling and caused an instant death.
