The Cell Revisited! THE CELL IS THE BASIC UNIT OF ALL LIFE!

The Cell Theory!!! ALL LIVING things are made up of CELLS!! CELLS carry out the FUNCTIONS needed to SUPPORT LIFE!! CELLS come ONLY from other LIVING CELLS!!!

CELL WALL The CELL WALL is found ONLY in PLANTS!!! FUNCTION: Provides SUPPORT and PROTECTION for the cell. It is like the wall that surrounds a city!

Cell Membrane Provides the cell with protection and maintains the condition Controls movement of materials in and out of the cell In BOTH plant and animals Ex. Its like the border of the city

Cytoplasm Also protects and supports cell Jelly like material located throughout the cell that contains cell materials. In BOTH plant and animal cells Ex. Its like the sidewalks of a city

Nucleus CONTROLS cell activities In BOTH plant and animal cells Ex. Its like the brain of your body

Mitochondria Breaks down sugar molecules to PRODUCE ENERGY Found in BOTH animal and plant cells Ex. Its like a city’s power plant!

Golgi Body/Apparatus Processes and packages molecules, like lipids and proteins, that were made by the cell Store and release chemicals for cell use Found in BOTH plant and animal cells Ex. Like the post office of the cell

Vacuole STORES food water and waste of the cell Also dissolved materials Found in BOTH plant and animal cells Ex. Like a storage container.

Lysosome DIGESTS old cell parts. Found ONLY in ANIMAL cells Ex. Like a recycling center

Ribosome PRODUCES PROTEINS Found in BOTH animal and plant cells Ex. Like production factory that provides city with materials to function

Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) NETWORK of TUBES that transports materials throughout the cell Two types SMOOTH and ROUGH Found in BOTH plant and animal cells

Chloroplast Use ENERGY from the sun to produce food for the PLANT Contains Chlorophyll and responsible for photosynthesis Found ONLY IN PLANTS CELLS

ORGANELLES ONLY IN PLANTS CHLOROPLAST CELL WALL THAT’S IT. THESE TWO ARE THE ONLY DIFFERENCES found in the plant cell.

ORGANELLES ONLY IN ANIMAL CELLS LYSOSOMES THAT IS THE ONLY ORGANELLE NOT FOUND IN A PLANT CELL BUT IS IN ANIMAL CELLS.

PLANTS AND CELL WALLS PLANTS HAVE CELL WALLS TO PROTECT THE CELL AND TO GIVE THE CELL SUPPORT!! The cell wall gives the plant structure.
