LESSON 7
What is Holy Spirit Baptism?
How does Scripture define “Holy Spirit Baptism” It was verified by the miraculous manifestations. (Acts 2:2-4) It was an overwhelming of the Holy Spirit’s power on those who were its subjects. It was a figurative description of a literal event.
The Only Cases of Holy Spirit Baptism The 12 Apostles—Acts 2 Cornelius’ House—Acts 10 Paul—I Cor. 15:8-9; II Cor. 11:15, 12:12
Characteristics of the Holy Spirit Baptism It was promised not commanded. (Joel 2:28- 31, Matt. 3:11, Acts 1:5) It was administered by Christ, not man! (Matt. 3:11, Acts 11:17, Acts 2:32-33) It was accompanied by the miraculous! (Acts 2 and 10) It was no for Salvation! (Acts 10:47-48)
The Reasons for Holy Spirit Baptism The Apostles needed it to have revelation of the truth and confirmation of the truth. The household of Cornelius needed it to show that God accepted “all flesh.” Gentiles could be accepted at Christians.
Remember the Holy Spirit Baptism in the Bible… Was administered by Christ for specific purposes. Cannot be administered by man. Is in contrast to the Great Commission baptism. Is not in force today. Eph. 4:5
