Using the G-1000 Omni-Bearing Selector (OBS) Mode for VFR Arrivals SM Dan Fernandez NM SQ II 12 Aug 2009

OBS Mode Sets the current active-to waypoint as the primary navigation reference Sets the current active-to waypoint as the primary navigation reference Prevents the system from sequencing to next waypoint in flight plan Prevents the system from sequencing to next waypoint in flight plan Allows pilot to set a desired course to/from a waypoint using the CRS/BARO knob on the HSI Allows pilot to set a desired course to/from a waypoint using the CRS/BARO knob on the HSI Must be in a GPS Navigation mode via CDI softkey Must be in a GPS Navigation mode via CDI softkey “In the OBS Mode, a GPS waypoint is treated like a VOR”

Normal vs OBS Mode Normal (OBS not activated) OBS Mode Automatic sequencing of waypoints Manual sequencing - “holds” on selected waypoint Manual course change on HSI not possible Manually select course to waypoint from HSI Always navigates “TO” the active waypoint Indicates “TO” or “FROM” Must be in this mode for final approach course Cannot be set from final approach course or published holding pattern
