CommunityContent Competence Cognition Communication TOPIC LESSON PLANACTIVITIES LANGUAGE OF/FOR LEARNING

This acts as a module within a course in Information and Communication Technology Back to Overview

The students will understand how to design and deploy an online website; how to make use of online tools for language learning, and learn about acceptable norms of online behavior. Back to Overview

Students read authentic documents and participate in online tutorials. Knowledge-gap methods are used, i.e the class will work in teams, each team will acquire a part of the content knowledge, and will then be consultants/tutors for the other teams. The students will memorize key vocabulary and apply it in different ways as part of instructions and descriptions and master the use of passive and active voice for descriptions and instructions. The online texts to be used by the students will be accessed through Wordlink where all words become linked to dictionaries. Each student compiles a list of language observations and words looked up through Wordlink. Other Scaffolding Techniques to help studentsScaffolding Techniques Back to Overview

The students will use and acquire several Cognitive Skills: They’ll compile webpages using HTML and CSS codes, justify decision- making with reasons, analyze suitability of designs, and evaluate possible impact of the resulting pages. Cognitive Skills: They’ll understand the issues of netiquette. The resulting activities will thus elicit both higher order and lower order thinking: Bloom’s Wheel Bloom’s Wheel Back to Overview

Students will be enabled to know how to access free webserver services, master basic HTML coding, upload (FTP) pages, make key decisions on layout and use of graphics, and follow common copyright issues. Overall this will enable development of competences for future work on creating online pages. One additional feature will be the ability to identify and link to key dictionaries for specific purposes. Back to Overview

Students will understand basic principles of social media netiquette when using digital systems for information and communication. Back to Overview
